Joyfullyblessed
Hello... We are thinking about getting the Vitamix from Costco, but I am wondering if it is worth the money? Please tell what all this thing can do. This one comes with a dry ingredient attachment too. I tried to go to their site, but it is down right now. Thanks so much! :)
LittleIzumi
I know our Costco has the Blendtecs, and they are amazing. I can't comment on the Vitamix.
LizzyBee
Smoothies, hummus, soup, almond milk, chop veggies, sherbet, salsa If you get the dry container, you can also grind grains and seeds. ChristyB in TN
It can do anything. Ever see the super blenders at a smoothie store? They whip up smoothies super fast, without causing smoke like my blender. They make soup, nut butters, etc. I have a co worker who has one. I just dream about it and continue buying new cheap blenders.
laundrycrisis
If you go to a Jamba Juice and get a smoothie, they will mix it in a Vitamix while you watch. I use ours for smoothies mostly, but also sauces, and soups when I want to puree a portion of the stuff to get a thicker soup. I can put an entire head of romaine lettuce (okay I cut off the bottom stem) into the Vitamix with some frozen strawberries, matcha powder, and some vanilla almond milk, and make a wonderful smooth smoothie that does not remind me that I am basically drinking a salad. Photo Ninja
Ican put an entire head of romaine lettuce (okay I cut off the bottom stem) into the Vitamix with some frozen strawberries, matcha powder, and some vanilla almond milk, and make a wonderful smooth smoothie that does not remind me that I am basically drinking a salad. I want to try this. I add a huge handful of spinach to smoothies and it is delicious but I've never used romaine or matcha powder. OP - the Vitamix is one of our most used appliances. It is one thing that I will replace ASAP should it stop working. We have had ours for many years, before they started including a dry ingredient attachment, and it keep working even with regular, almost daily use. We make smoothies, shakes, ice cream, soup, sauces in it. It is easy to clean.
justLisa
I wouldn't trade my Vitamix for anything. It blends anything butter smooth.
Patches
I also love mine. I make smoothies every day. I grind wheat and grains (You have to have a different container for this.) You can make soup and something like ice cream. It is the greatest kitchen investment ever!
justLisa
I have had mine since before they were so popular. It is ugly and does not have the variable speed control, just low/high. I really want to trade mine up. My mom has the new one and the variable speed really helps
meggie
I think the better question would be "What *can't* it do?" :toetap05: And I'm having a hard time thinking of anything. We got ours at Costco last year! Love it! :001_wub: Soups, nut butters, smoothies, sauces, mayonnaise. We use ours All. The. Time.

laundrycrisis
I think the better question would be "What *can't* it do?" :toetap05: And I'm having a hard time thinking of anything. We got ours at Costco last year! Love it! :001_wub: Soups, nut butters, smoothies, sauces, mayonnaise. We use ours All. The. Time. It can't make really thick homemade hummus. Attempting that will trip the overheat protection. But it can make a slightly thinner version. BTW mine did have a problem with the motor surging at one point. It was under warranty, and their repair shipping and return service was amazing ! If you buy from Costco, (we did), register the blender according to the instructions. You need that for the warranty. If you buy elsewhere, do not buy the professional version. The home version has a much better warranty. And another option to consider over the Costco deal is to buy a reconditioned one directly from the company. They have been reconditioned by the company and come with a great warranty and I believe brand new pitchers. If I had it to do over, I would buy a reconditioned one, and once ours is out of warranty and stops working, I will probably replace it with a reconditioned one.
