jibaker103
What do you recommend as the main text for a 1/2 credit of economics? ETA: I already plan to use the following: * The Teaching Company Economics video course or Introduction to Economics free video lectures from learners TV * Money Smart for Young Adults free from the FDIC or Dave Ramsey's Foundations in Personal Finance * Economic Daily Warmups from Walch Publishing * The Motley Fool Investment Workbook Supplementals I am considering are: * The Money Book for the Young Fabulous & Broke by Suze Orman * Freakanomics *Whatever Happened to Penny Candy? by Bluestocking Press * Rich Dad Poor Dad for Teens Robert T. Kiyosaki * Capitalism for Kids by Bluestocking Press I am sorry I did not share this information before (it was very late when I posted). Hopefully this will aid in your voting decision. mumto2
I voted for the dummies book but it is the only one of the choices I have ever seen. It does seem to cover everything very lightly--I think my copy is a first edition. I think you need to find something with examples of situations to go with it. Maybe study questions just something more. Not sure where I found it but I have "Lessons for a Young Economist" by Murphy on Pdf. I don't want to confuse things but it has good end of chapter questions. It was free which is always good. I have some other free resources bookmarked. EKS
One of the "rules" I go by when picking a main text is that the title needs to be one that I wouldn't be concerned about appearing in the course description list accompanying my son's transcript. The only title in the poll that meets this criterion (for me) is Common Sense Economics, but I know nothing about it otherwise.
Sebastian (a lady)
What do you recommend as the main text for a 1/2 credit of economics? Nove of the above. I would recommend Basic Economics by Thomas Sowell, supplemented by frequent readings in Wall Street Journal or The Economist.
Miss Marple
We went away from the standard macro/micro economics text and did what the public/private schools do here in high school: personal finance. Then my boys take macro economics concurrently as high school students. I, personally, find that the personal finance is an excellent preface to the macro/micro series. My youngest 2 sons also had a personal management merit badge which included some of the aspects of the structured personal finance course they took. Kim in SouthGa
I would choose Economics in a Box, which is not on your list:0) Common Sense Economics would be my 2nd choice. It is one of the books used in Economics in a Box. I'm reading it right now, and would be hesitant to use it as a stand alone curriculum. The website for the book has worksheets, tests, and lots of extras that could beef it up.

Felt my oldest really understood economics after the course.
