Mandylubug
I remember being quite young and having headaches growing up.. Now, my son is having headaches atleast three times a week. I don't seem to notice a trigger minus the typical "hunger" headache that will go away within 30 minutes of eating. So, these headaches aren't those. Each time, I have been giving him peanut butter or another protein source and watched before administering any kind of medication... Anyone else notice a spike in headaches around this age? Hot Lava Mama
9 years old seems kind of young to have such frequent headaches. Hot Lava Mama
kokotg
Allergies? Headaches are one of my 6 year old's biggest allergy symptoms. My 10 year old get seasonal headaches (fall and spring) that go away when he takes zyrtec or allegra regularly, but he swears he doesn't have allergies ;)
*********
I'd take him to the doctor. Zee has migraines. He started getting them at age FOUR. Poor thing. Our pediatrician refered us to a pediatric neurologist. She did and MRI 'just in case', but there was nothing 'wrong', thank the Lord. He just gets migraines. He has a med to take when one hits. He gets one about every 2 to 3 weeks. But for a while, he was also getting a 'regular' headache every day. The ped neuro had him on a daily med for a few months to rid him of those. Nine is young for headaches, and three a week is frequent. IMO, it warrants a trip to his pediatrician, who will either diagnose or refer you to the correct specialist. :grouphug:
Onceuponatime
My 8yo has been getting headaches recently and I think I have linked it to some processed cereal he was eating for breakfast a few days a week. OrganicAnn
I used to get headaches after going to the mall. I finally figured out it was from the lights. There are lots of triggers for headaches. If you can avoid them it is better than medicine.
snowbeltmom
I would have his vision checked. I began getting headaches when I was your son's age. I needed glasses, but outgrew the condition a few years later. My oldest started having headaches at around the same age and ended up having the same condition as I had as a child. He also no longer requires glasses. Good luck in determining the cause.
momtoamiracle
my niece was found to have a brain tumor just two days before she turned five years old. I'd take him to the dr. You just never know, could be allergies, an eye problem, or something serious. I wouldn't let it go.
Mandylubug
I should try an allergy med with him. He does have seasonal allergies. My family and my husband's side has a huge history of recurring headaches (lucky us) and allergies and histories of members requiring allergy shots to help eleviate allergy headaches.. I am just an anti-med kind of person as long as possible. I might start journaling his meals and headaches, weather and pollen levels for a week and then administer an allergy med the next week and journal again. Our pediatrician blames every.single.thing. to milk allergies (sensitivities) which he does have but I am just tired of paying to hear "oh, you would be amazed at the symptoms milk allergies and sensitivities are linked to these days" He is currently doing a major research study on this topic :/ its annoying to say the least but he is a good doctor that knows my families complicated medical history. Mommyof4ks
My son's migraine trigger is bananas, so it really can be anything. His pedi has the same trigger, if had not shared that, we never would have figured out my son's headache issue. Who thinks about bananas lol? I had the same issue when I was that age, ended up needing glasses but it didn't solve the problem. Years of pain, often crippling. Turned out my neck was missing the cervical curve. Massage therapy worked over time, I live mostly pain free unless I annoy my neck and shoulder muscles. Allergies also an option. For both my kids it ended up being Lyme Disease. I hope you find out what is causing them, 9 is too young to live with headaches. :grouphug::grouphug:
besroma
The first thing we tell our kids when they have a headache is to drink something. Sometimes they get caught up in what they are doing and don't stay hydrated. We also have children with headaches due to allergies. We use an herbal remedy called Al R G from trilightherbs.com which we have used successfully for 10 years. Someone else recently posted about having good results from an allergy medication by Hyland's.
