plath
Just wondering if anyone buys a curriculum more than a year ahead? I'm already wanting to buy grade one when we haven't even started k yet...
ProudGrandma
if it is something that I KNOW I will use, I might buy ahead, but if there is any uncertainty, then I won't.
edeemarie
if it is something that I KNOW I will use, I might buy ahead, but if there is any uncertainty, then I won't. :iagree: I try to keep that in mind- otherwise we would be broke and I would have a house full of books that I "might" like! The only things I buy more than a year ahead have been math and English, and those I buy used when I find a good deal:)
mumto2
I normally only buy workbooks ahead for my son. If I buy dd a curriculum and plan to use it for him in the future I get 2. Things change and disappear. Other than that one year with a bit of buffer and that's because we live in the UK and I only order once a year. MomatHWTK
I used to buy years ahead, but now I try to wait until the last minute to buy. I have lots of curricula that I thought was "perfect" sitting on my shelves. I am hoping to still get some use out of it- I've not tried it out on every child yet. ;)
plath
Oh I definitely mean used. I found what is probably a deal on grade 1 materials, but who knows if I could find it cheaper later or not. And maybe I'll change what I want to use then...
mudboots
I just bought a couple things for the year after next. I'm pretty certain I'll use the curriculum, I got free shipping with the bigger order, and I want to have the main texts on hand for planning some book orders around it. For math, I bought workbooks for the younger DD when I ordered for the olders because I don't want to be stuck with different textbook and workbook versions if they change anything. kroe1
This year I bought early since kiddo wanted all one publisher, and it was cheapest to buy at a hotel meeting. Normally, however, I just buy science so I can start planning lab supplies in advance. Everything else is last minute. :)
thefragile7393
I buy when I get my tax refund. Only time I have money to do so.
Dmmetler
Whenever I buy too far ahead, DD invariably makes a BIG leap forward and burns through what I bought in half the time (or less) that I expected. :glare: I've bought fall's materials, and I'm trying to discourage her from even looking at them. frugalmama
I do buy ahead a lot - right now dd is 1st / 2nd level and I'm buying for all the way up to high school. I try to buy ultra cheap and pick up free when I can instead. DD goes through things so fast sometimes that the only way I keep up is to buy ahead. m0mmaBuck
I only buy ahead when it's something I know I want and I find it used or on sale. For instance, I bought used volumes 3 and 4 of SOTW and the AG's at a curriculum sale last fall because they were $5 each.
Sk8ermaiden
Mine is only in Pre-K and I'm resisting. I can't know what will work for her and what new stuff will be out. Learning aids are my exception. Encyclopedias, historical fiction or non-fiction, learning games, manipulatives - if I find good deals on any of that I pick it up.
