History they can do themselves

I am trying to take some off my plate next year. Is there a history program that has the student doing all of the work, and maybe me checking? Maybe a setup where they read the assignment, then answer the questions or do a project? I need to do some things in a hands off way next year, and was hoping this might be an area where that would work. Anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks!

What age ? My 3rd grader is using the Story of Western Civilization workbooks published by EPS School Specialty. They are "reading comprehension" workbooks that happen to cover history in a chronological way. They are interesting and have nice pictures, and he is learning to read for information. And he is actually learning the history and remembering it, which is something I was not able to accomplish before I made him do the reading himself.
