saraha
I am trying to take some off my plate next year. Is there a history program that has the student doing all of the work, and maybe me checking? Maybe a setup where they read the assignment, then answer the questions or do a project? I need to do some things in a hands off way next year, and was hoping this might be an area where that would work. Anybody have any suggestions? Thanks! Pen
What ages/grades? What do you have around as resources? What has already been done?
SunnyDays
Depending on their ages, some of the Memoria Press options might work. They have an American History option with a study guide, then the "Famous Men of..." sets with book and study guide.
redsquirrel
How old are these kids? History Odyssey might work, but I would thinking more logic stage than grammar.
laundrycrisis
What age ? My 3rd grader is using the Story of Western Civilization workbooks published by EPS School Specialty. They are "reading comprehension" workbooks that happen to cover history in a chronological way. They are interesting and have nice pictures, and he is learning to read for information. And he is actually learning the history and remembering it, which is something I was not able to accomplish before I made him do the reading himself. foxbridgeacademy
Connect the Thoughts is very independent. Several different levels to choose from. All PDF and low $.
Momma4Boys
I know Veritas Press has a really cool looking history online program for lower/upper elementary. It isn't a live class - just a program that you go at your own pace. I have never used it but I have certainly drooled over it.
Vida Winter
We have been using the upper elementary American History recorded sessions with History at Our House this year and everyone is happy with it. It requires next to nothing as far as my involvement and it gets done five days a week.
saraha
Sorry! They are both going to be in 6th grade. I just need to be able to hand them something and let them do it, then I can grade it. I am schooling 4 kids next year and there are not enough hours in the day:tongue_smilie:
redsquirrel
Then you might check out History Odyssey. It is written to the student and the entire year is laid out for you. In fact, I think they are having a sale of 25% off for the month.
diaperjoys
Veritas Self-Paced history. Completely independent, good retention, and my kids LOVE it! There is also an optional literature component that goes along with it, also independent.

hsmom2011
My dd (11yrs) doed Biblioplan independently. I just give her a schedule for each day. When she is done, she tells me about what she read and we check her answers to the Cool History pages/Maps together.
