littlebug42
Help me with some ideas about what could be wrong with Boo-Boo, age 8. Significant medical history includes asthma and an asymptomatic cyst on one of her kidneys. Last night, when I came home from work (7 PM), Dh reported to me that Boo-Boo had taken a nap during the day (extremely unusual). She felt feverish to me but I did not take temp. She remained feverish feeling until bedtime, at which point, she fell asleep while playing with her sister. Asleep on her own by 9 PM, also very unusual. This morning when I left for work (6 AM), she no longer felt feverish but just seemed off. Not her normal bubbly self. Dh reports that she remained somewhat lethargic during day, decreased to no appetite, but he did not think to check temp. When I came home from work this evening, she still felt feverish so I took temp and it was 102.1. Boo-Boo, normally a child who can't sit still, laid on the couch and in my lap. All this time, she insists nothing hurts or feels sick. She has had slight respiratory issues (allergy/sinus stuff) this week and said that she was coughing a little this morning but not since. Any ideas? I thought maybe it is just some viral thing but since this is a child that never complains until she is extremely ill, I am concerned. Whereneverever
Could be a virus or bacterial, hard to tell without some more information.
littlebug42
I know. Unfortunately, that is all the information I have. I am stumped.
sbgrace
I'd think something viral (high temp but come and go which bacterial infections don't normally do in my experience). The high temperature alone can make a child lethargic as can fighting something off.
Ottakee
If her breathing is OK, no rash and no pain with urination (thinking bladder infection) then likely it is just a virus. Just keep an eye on her and see if anything changes. So hard to know with those kids who never complain. My 16dd just had a bladder infection severe enough to almost hospitalize her BUT she denied any pain, frequently, urgency, etc. It was found on a routine screen at the kidney specialist. She is one that if she seems sick, I am much more likely to jump to taking her to the doctor...........other daughter is a complainer about everything so I dont' take her complaints as seriously. juelle
A virus has been going around which sounds very much like what you're seeing. My dc have all had it, each with a different combination of fever, vomiting, diarrhea, coughs, loss of appetite, lethargy, headaches and sore throats. Lovely. It took me 3 weeks to knock it, but the dc all seemed much better after a few days each. Obviously keep a close eye on things, and I do hope things clear up soon for you. littlebug42
She seems to be better today although maybe not completely back to normal. The temp has remained down today though. We have kept her home from activities today to rest and replenish fluids. Thanks for the help everyone.
