How to make free, decent quality pdf?

I'm interested in making pdfs that won't cost me any money. I'd like to be able to share knitting patterns and preschool worksheets I've created, but I don't know how to do this. I would need simple, easy to follow directions and a decent free program(I assume). Can anyone help?

Do you have a scanner hooked up to your computer? Every scanner I've had gives you the option to save the files you scan as a pdf.

 

Also, in the 2010 version of MS Office, you can save files as a PDF. Not sure about earlier versions. HTH

If you're working in a word processing program, many have an option to save as or convert to PDF. I use Open Office, and there's an option under the File menu for making it into a PDF file.

We use CutePdf which has worked well over the years and our newer computer has its own pdf writer.

What I do for all my agency paperwork:

 

Put stuff in scanner

Open MS Word

Hold down ALT and type IPS

stuff comes up as pic in MS Word

Save As PDF

Also just tested this:

 

Create or upload a document to Google docs, and then you can download the Google document to your desktop as a PDF. (File / Download As / PDF)

There is an extension available for microsoft for Word to save files as a PDF. This link might help.

Here's the cnet review, so you know it is malware free.

 

All you do is install the program. Then when you have your worksheet or pattern ready in whatever program you made it in, you click print and choose dopdf instead of your printer. That's pretty much it!

I also have http://www.pdfsam.org/ , which I can use to split up or merge pdf files.

If you have a MAC computer, all you do is open the document and click print. There is an option to save as a pdf. Click it and there you go! Why it's under print, I will never know!
