What are you favorite books

This is what my son read for middle school science (which we did a few years early). We ended with Tarbuck Earth Science because it was the most difficult read. But he loves it!

Chemistry

Cartoon guide to Chemistry: http://www.amazon.com/Cartoon-Guide-Chemistry-Larry-Gonick/dp/0060936770/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1324015536&sr=1-1

We also used some nice library books here, but I can't figure out which ones.

Physics

Cartoon guide to Physics: http://www.amazon.com/Cartoon-Guide-Physics-Larry-Gonick/dp/0062731009/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1324015536&sr=1-3

The way things work: http://www.amazon.com/New-Way-Things-Work/dp/0395938473/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1324015616&sr=1-1

Biology

The Way life works: http://www.amazon.com/Way-Life-Works-Illustrated-Reproduces/dp/0812928881/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1324015007&sr=8-1

Exploring the way life works: http://www.amazon.com/Exploring-Way-Life-Works-Science/dp/076371688X/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1324015007&sr=8-2

(We did not use both of these. The 2nd one repeats the first but adds about 30% more material)

Cartoon guide to genetics: http://www.amazon.com/Cartoon-Guide-Genetics-Updated/dp/0062730991/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1324015057&sr=8-1

Evolution (short high school text, we did together) http://www.amazon.com/Evolution-Biology-Modular-Workbook-Serie/dp/1877329886/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1324015988&sr=8-1

Earth Science

Earth Science (intro college level but very readable): http://www.amazon.com/Earth-Science-Edward-J-Tarbuck/dp/0136020070/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1324015473&sr=8-1

There is a high school version, but I have compared them side by side and they are almost identical. We will only do about 1/2 of the book in a year. It covers geology, meteorology, astronomy, and oceanography

Silent Spring http://www.amazon.com/Silent-Spring-Rachel-Carson/dp/0618249060/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1324017026&sr=1-1

Thanks so much for this. I bought The Way Life Works on your recommendation and I absolutely adore it!

My son also loved it. I found a piece of art of his years ago and realized that he was drawing amino acids assembling into a protein. :001_smile: I am so glad it worked out for you.

for logic stage that can be ordered through Amazon.com that has been worth buying? Please list.

I love my charter school's money cause then I can spend my money on things I really want and value.

1776 Illustrated Edition. It not only has the text with great illustrations, but also has envelopes with facsimile maps, letters, and other documents. This is a key part of our American Rev study this year. The documents mean that primary source material is right there, transcribed (for the hard to read handwriting), and put into context with the events.

I lucked into a $10 copy at a library sale. If you buy used, look for a note that the documents are included.
