ChristusG
I am SO not a cook. I have a 4.5 pound rump roast in the crock pot. It's been on high for 4.5 hours. Then I took it out, shredded it with a fork, and am letting it simmer in the juices/BBQ sauce. It's been doing that for about 20 minutes. It's for pork sandwiches. It was tender when I shredded it. How do I know if it is done? I don't want to give us food poisoning (especially being pregnant) or something.
Pretty in Pink
If it shredded easily with a fork then it's done. :001_smile:
Parrothead
It's done. If it was tender when you shredded it, it was done then.

ktgrok
It is safe temperature wise well before it gets tender enough to shred. It is done :)

kiana
For your peace of mind in future, you may want to get a cheap meat thermometer. Mine was about 5 bucks at Walmart and has the 'done' zone for beef/poultry/pork already marked.
