parias1126
Did you leave it on 24/7? I don't want to start a fire! Lol

plain jane
Yup. It did get warm in there- a couple of our plants died because we didn't water often enough. :o Guess I didn't really learn my botany lessons too well.

cello4life
We put ours on a timer. We were trying to keep our herbs for winter use and they kept dying. We read somewhere that the plants do better with 12-16 hours of light. It worked out well. No fires:)
kandty
Did you leave it on 24/7? I don't want to start a fire! Lol That is one of the reasons we didn't make it, even though DH assured me that it would be fine. Also lack of space in our small house was an issue. We will save any plant growing activities till next spring/summer. I figure it would make a good review lesson. If we get desperate this winter we till put a tray over top a heating vent and put a light on it. Good to hear no one had any fire problems. :D
Alyeska
That sure was a fun project! My dd still talks about it 4 years later. 24/7 and no fire...just feel the box throughout the day to make sure it isn't getting too warm. You could always get a lower wattage bulb if the box gets too warm. Have fun!
GoVanGogh
I wouldn't leave it on 24/7 simply because plants don't need 24 hours of sunlight a day to grow. Yes, I know the book says to keep it on that long but as a longtime/avid gardener, I don't agree with the instructions.
