We just bought the Math Mammoth blue series Addition for my twins today for the same reason. It looks like she introduces it in a very mythodical way. I have tried xtra math for them and it is a little to random and they were tending to guess too much. We will see. It only goes up to 10 though. They were each able to get 3 pages of it done in 10 minutes and seemed to enjoy it.

My oldest two are 16 months apart, so close to what you were asking. We just added in wwe and fll this year and I put them in the same volumes. They do the same spelling and phonics and cursive but I let them move at their own pace. They are doing apologia botany together(very slowly, we started it last year) We are using TT 4&5 for the first time this year but the younger one is moving very quickly usually doing 2 lessons at a time so she may catch up to her sister. The still do their seperate abeka language(because fll seams to simple to really work:lol: but after three weeks I am gaining cofidence in it) The 4 oldest do story of the world together. My two oldest I originally did everything together. But when it came time for 2nd grade my younger one was struggling a bit and I had her go back to her grade(by age) on some subjects and she gained back a lot of her cofidence. Now she is catching up to her sister in many things again. The main reason I have been trying to combine as much as possible is my twins are now doing 1st grade.(almost everything together) and my 4 year old is DEMANDING that I do school with her also. So I feel very spread thin. So I am hoping at least in the subjects that are more teacher intensive that I can combine. I hope that makes sense:tongue_smilie:

Twins are soo much fun. My twins are # 3 and 4 of the six and there older sisters were only 3 and a half and just turned 2 when the twins were born. It was hard but we survived!! (and we still had two more lol) You can do it;) Since all six of ours are girls sometimes I wish we would have a set of twin boys -

We put ours on a timer. We were trying to keep our herbs for winter use and they kept dying. We read somewhere that the plants do better with 12-16 hours of light. It worked out well. No fires:) -

How to make a "classical" education work in a large family.

Thanks for the repies. The Tapestry of Grace looks great(and overwhelming:confused:). I think it would be great for our next cycle when we have children in different levels. Luckly all of the kiddos are in the grammer stage for at least another year or so. I am having a great time checking out what everybody else is using. I never realized how many choices there were:001_unsure:. I am happy to glean all kind of knowledge from this forum though. Kathy- 7 replies

This will be our forth year homeschooling and I finally feel like we are getting in our grove. We started out waldorf-ish moved to sonlight and this year found Story of the World and Apologia Science. Through our love of sotw I read the Well Trained Mind and it makes so much sense. I am just trying to figure out how other large families make it work. We have 6 daughters ages 9,8,6,6,4 and 2. We did Story of the World vol 1 last year with the oldest four together and it worked great. It was the highlight of our school day and it kind of melded into the rest of our life too because we did a lot with the activity guide. Here is my main question. Do you follow the typical cycles with history(which in our cause would mean teaching 3 history time periods) Or do you really get really involved with just one? Does this put my older two behind when they hit the logic stage? Thanks for reading. Hopefully this makes sense. Kathy
