Swish and let it sit for some time or not really. I have baking soda. Should I put a tsp. in the bottom of the canteen first? I know, I know, I'm totally clueless. We had to dip the canteens in the bleach water, swish it for a minute, empty, then plunge in the clean water, repeat. Voila, all clean. Now I put a spoonful of baking soda and fill the bottle 1/2 way with warm water. Shake, rattle and roll, then rinse a few times. It got rid of all the yuck smell way better IMO. silliness7 Posted August 24, 2011 Author Share Posted August 24, 2011 My ds refuses for me to use bleach on them once I told him of my plan. He said the kids who had to borrow canteens from the base complained that the water tasted bleachy. It was probably just the smell but I know that affects how things taste. So I'll do vinegar but he's super afraid that it'll smell/taste vinegary. I really don't think that will be a problem. Vinegar smell isn't as strong and rinses easier don't you think?
