Blueridge
I just heard this on the news. http://www.latimes.com/travel/deals/la-tsa-scanning-upgrade-20110720,0,3217057.story :hurray:
Skadi
It's only slightly better. Can the actual scans still be accessed by any TSA employee who wants to have a peek, even if no red flags are raised? Yes. Is there any guarantee that these images aren't still being saved? No. Is it still a heinously unlawful breach of privacy? Yes.
brightside
It still allows the US government to treat its citizens like criminals. Edited July 21, 2011 by brightside horrible grammar
Punchie
It also begs the question...why weren't they doing this from the beginning?
DarcyB
However, this will quiet the semi-loud voices of decent, make everyone happy and more compliant, and allow the TSA to continue with their now less-benevolent scanning (said with a huge amount of sarcasm, mind you). stripe
It also begs the question...why weren't they doing this from the beginning? Yes, I read this is the sort of scanning being used in Europe.
Margo out of lurking
I have quite strong negative opinions about the TSA, but I'm glad to see this article. Dd is flying out of DC next week, and while she's been okay with the security possibilities, I've been less than thrilled. This eases my mind, at least for her, at least for this trip. RanchGirl
No change to the amount of radiation though, and they are still keeping the porno style pics, just not displaying them... It's still a total violation IMO.
joannqn
Yeah, I'm still concerned about the radiation too.
