momgenet
Hehe! I guess that is TWO VOTES for that! LOVE IT! Not really a curriculum, but seems a neat little resource! I'm ordering that for sure! Thanks!
Satori
That's what I just came in to suggest. So make that three votes so far! I just blogged about those little books. :) It even has a cute poster of the periodic table with all the little characters in the book. momgenet
Looks like they don't contain ALL the elements, but we are only doing the first 20 or so. For the elementary level this looks ok! Thanks you guys!
Momof2:E&T
For human anatomy: http://www.guesthollow.com/homeschool/science/otters_science/otters_science_main.html There is a very basic for younger children and a more in depth version for older. I downloaded it, but have not started using it. Depending on the section I was going to add books about health. For example add nutrition when talking about the digestive system. Hope this helps. Satori
You can download some of their posters from the Basher Laboratories website, including the periodic table one.
Lily_Grace
We have the book Fizz, Bubble & Flash and it's been well used here. A lot of fun with simple experiments mixed in with everyday explanations. There was a picture book called The Elements we loved, too. It's for adult readers, but has large, full color photos to show what everything looks like. For human anatomy - Alive. You should be able to find a copy at B&N or Borders to see it in person. It's gorgeous. We have a great set of human x-rays that we found on Amazon to go with, along with the book Jessica's x-ray (with smaller x-rays that come with) and a stethoscope I found on http://www.forsmallhands.com
Alice
Well, if you want to be a total geek like me you can get this. http://www.amazon.com/Periodic-Table-Shower-Curtain-vinyl/dp/B00176V42O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1310151304&sr=8-1 :) I'm considering using Uncle Tungsten by Oliver Sacks as a read-aloud next year for my third grader. I wouldn't have thought of it myself but read about it on a blog http://fannyharvilleunschool.blogspot.com/2011/03/uncle-tungsten.html. There are parts of the book you would probably want to edit (WWII events, some horrific mistreatment at a boarding school) but the story of Sacks' fascination with the periodic table and his recreation as a boy of many great chemistry experiments is amazing and inspiring. It's sort of autobiography, history of science, science and story all rolled up in one. For human anatomy we loved the My Body book. http://search.barnesandnoble.com/My-Body/Patty-Carratello/e/9781557342119?r=1&cm_mmc=Google%20Product%20Search-_-Q000000630-_-My%20Body-_-9781557342119 It might seem too simple but it has good information and can serve as a good way to introduce the concept and as a jumping off point for reading more. Seymour Simon has some fantastic books about the human body that we read along with it. And some of the Magic School Bus ones are also great (the one where they are inside Ralphie comes to mind). Satori
Ooh, I'm totally getting that shower curtain next year when we study Chemistry. Right now we have the World Geography shower curtain in our Loft bathroom. I swung back into this thread to also mention the free app - The Elementals. It's very simple, but it's cute and it's free. momgenet
Uh ? Shower curtain? Did I miss a post ? Yes, thank you everyone! We have and are doing the My Body Book. There is also an exhibit in Branson, MO (near our home) called Bodies! but my children were a bit grossed out by it since it is ACTUAL human remains. :( So I have to go w/ the non-"gross" factor here :)
Osaubi
Here is some stuff we used or came across on our chemistry journey last year. There is a Periodic Table coloring book here with the exception of elements 58-71. Here are some videos for specific elements. Awesome website for the periodic table online. We got the book first and then found out he had a website. The kids liked that they could rotate the objects online that were in the book. We also purchased this game called Elementeo. It was created by a boy who was in 4th grade at the time. He is now in 11th grade. I second the Guest Hollow for human anatomy. I have used it in the past and it was a hit. Hannah
We really enjoyed Ellen McHenry's The Elements. I bought it for my then 10yo, but my 6yo learned a lot from it too.
Hannah
My Body by Patty Carratello is a great human anatomy intro.
Mavis
I'm using Ellen McHenry's The Elements this year with my (almost) 8 year old. We also got the Basher book to go along with it. We are both looking forward to to it.
cschnee
http://www.periodicvideos.com/ This is the greatest site for studying the periodic table. Click on an element and you get a video about it.

I love these books, and I just ordered the Periodic Table one the other day for my son who has become interested in elements.
Nestof3
Honestly, being able to use cool shower curtains is the only reason I want a second bathroom! Oh, and I just downloaded that app. Thanks! Nestof3
We also purchased this game called Elementeo. It was created by a boy who was in 4th grade at the time. He is now in 11th grade. I bought this the other day as well for Nathan who has been interested in elements. He has enjoyed it, but I really need to stop and take time to play it with him. I also bought him the Elements book and the cards. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1579128149 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1603761985
momgenet
WOW!!!! This is great! More links than I can almost check out right now! :D Where is everyone getting this shower curtain ? Well, YES, we must have shower curtains! :)
Lily_Grace
Try thinkgeek :D However, I also like the building blocks. The baby is still too young for that kind of thing, though, so I think we'll start with the ABCs before moving on to the periodic table.
