  1. Hey. So our group is on SOTW Vol. 4. 1. Can I get the audio that reads WITH the books (like highlights the words)? Where can I get the pictures like on YouTube with Jim Weiss and showing the maps and pics as he reads. I have an Android and Amazon Fire. Can I get Alexa to read it to us ? What are my good audio book options ? 2. I am supposed to teach Vol. 4 to 2nd grade. Any resources for this? Any good hands on activities or picture books other than the Acitivity Book ? I realize it's really difficult topics. TIA. Genet

  3. Hi. We homeschool from a Christian perspective and I am looking for a list of primary history sources that coordinate with different topics in ancient history. For instance, the fall of Rome, Chpt 18 in Josephus Antiquities, etc. Does anyone know where I could find information on that? I have middle schoolers ..... Thanks.
  4. She has no formal diagnosis and I have NO idea what a FAPE is ? But thank you . . . .
  5. Well . . . . she has gone through levels 1 - 3 in two months . . . .so . . . . . .I was just imagining having to spend $2400 for the rest in the next year or so . . .but I could be wrong . . .
  6. I have an older child who is 13 but reading on a 3rd grade reading level, so I will post this here. She has excelled under tutoring with Barton and is on Book 3 and Lesson 8 r. However, due to insane financial problems AND moving, we may have to remove her mid-course. Does anyone know what is the closest thing I could do with her at home ? All About Spelling ? Logic of English ? Ideas ? Barton itself seems $$$$. And does anyone know WHERE in AAS or LOE she would be placed if she is now in Barton book 3 ? Thanks
  7. I also came here to ask about CTC math. I am thinking this would be a good fit for us, as I have students that need a little remedial help. .. .but I am not sure in what areas to start ? I am thinking the pretests would help me a lot :)
  8. Thank you all so much for your suggestions and feedback ! You have all been so very helpful ! I do not understand come of your abbreviations though. . . MCT ? JAG ? ?
  9. I wish I COULD "fully engage." :( I will look at it and I will keep it in mind. Thanks The thing about Growing with Grammar that I liked is that it emphasized diagramming. It DID have spelling and some elementary writing tasks but in separate books. But yes, they would need more writing than that. They do MFW and MOH for History so I think with everything else the writing at least would only be supplementary. . . . . The spelling looked basic but okay. . . . . . . I was hoping to find something more self instructed. So thanks for all your input !
  10. If she can already spell/write CVC words she might be ready for MFWv 1st .
  11. Hmmmm ? I'd be open with alternate/similar suggestions as well . . . . .
  12. Hi there. I have a 10 year old I am trying to get caught up on spelling/grammar/writing. I wondered if you have heard of or used Growing with Grammar ? How about the Soaring with Spelling and Winning with Writing ? If I were to start at the beginning and hurry through the first two workbooks, do you think this would be a complete program ? Is it pretty thorough ? Complete ? It looked simple enough for me to do even with a child in the NICU right now !!! And I NEED THAT ! :) Thanks for your input . . . . .

  14. Ok, so yesterday, I tried to ask if anyone here had heard of Let's Go Learn Reading with the DORA reading analysis. I take it no one had . . . . . . . . :) So let me ask this. .. ... I am looking for a phonics/reading program that is online, sequential, fairly fast moving, and goes from first to at least fifth grade . . . . . Any you have used and worked/liked ? Thanks genet

  18. Hi there. I am looking for an English curriculum. I need something that the student can move through at their own pace, but isn't "baby'ish." I want to use this for my 10 year old who needs some remidial help, but then one that will advance. Is there something more self-directed I can use ? Thoughts ? thanks
  19. Hi there. My family has recently taken in a foster child who, due to an extremly sad disfunctional family, was just not able to attend school. She has pretty much missed all her first six grades :( So on to a plan to catch her up. She is fairly bright, but her reading level is low. She can read some, just not well. I have been looking at On Track Reading, Advanced Code with her. I like the looks of this because it seems thorough, not overly childish, and something she could move along in at her own quicker pace. (I am guessing she will advance through parts of it quickly. She is 12 years old.) Anyone here have thoughts or experience using this in a remedial situation? Have any of you used this curriculum at all ? Or are there better things that would work ? TIA
  20. Thank you guys! :grouphug: It is aggrevating to me that all the speech therapists I've talked to has said that her problems are "small enough" they don't warrent therapy. . . . However . . . . . .in so saying . . . .they are admitting she has a problem??? Anyway. . . .I will look into these resources ! THanks ! :)
  21. Hi there. I am really a bit angered at many people right now. I have an 11 yo daughter who has had trouble with a 'lisp' for awhile. We have been told she doesn't quailify for help in the public school speech dept and also several places seem to deem that her problem isn't "big enough" for asssistance. We have no insurance or way to pay for speech therapy otherwise. BUT several agree, including 2 doctors that she in fact, DOES need some speech help ? What do I do ? Her problems are mostly with the 'f' and 'th' and 'ch' and 'sh' types of sounds. They sent me a link to the Speech Buddies website but they don't address those sounds. What do I do ?
  22. These are not REALLY patriotic songs, but my children (all ages) loved the CD and DVD of Schoolhouse Rock and learned about things like how Bills go through Congress and government and etc. . :)
