Word Nerd
She means she used her tax refund to buy curriculum. No, you can't write off school expenses on federal taxes, though there are a few states that offer credits for homeschooling.
MaMa2005
Depends on how good your tax accountant is ;) .
JudyJudyJudy
Not legally—unless you are a school (not homeschool) teacher.
Mama2Many4
No, and I wouldn't want to. The moment we are reimbursed we give up some rights regarding homeschooling. I'd rather foot the bill myself and hold onto the right to buy whatever I want for my children's educations.
Excelsior! Academy
My cpa dad says no. I know he gets us all of the tax credits legally allowed.
Mama2Many4
Like what rights? I already feel like I barely have rights. If someone wants to give me money then I'm holding my hand out. I can't imagine it getting worse except if homeschooling just became illegal. Well, right now I'm able to at least choose what curriculum I use. If they were paying for the books, we might not have that choice. I do know what you're saying though. I live in a high accountability state.
