Stacia
Probably a long shot, but I figured perhaps a few of you might have suggestions of books to look into about falconry & hawking. Dd would like a book or two about these topics. We do not have falcons or hawks (nor will we be getting any), but she loves to read books about things like this. (This is a kid who has read dozens & dozens of books on horse care & training, including an equine veterinary manual.) I think for her, ideally, it would have lots of great info along w/ some great photographs. So, any suggestions...??? :bigear: Thanks!!! P.S. If you have any great suggestions of similar type books about wolves, large wild cats, etc..., those would be appreciated too. :D FYI, Living with Wolves is on her wish list of books (she's checked it out from the library multiple times); it is an example of the style/type of book she generally likes. nmoira
Perhaps The Falconer's Apprentice or The Goshawk. I've read the latter and the former is on DD the Elder's science reading list. I haven't come across any lushly illustrated books.
5wolfcubs
Not quite what you asked for but Gifts of an Eagle is a wonderful story about raising a Golden Eagle! It isn't a picture book but makes a fabulous read-aloud. I put Living with Wolves on my wish list. :)
Rosie_0801
There should be articles in the Florilegium to start you off. Rosie
Jean in Newcastle
This book looks really interesting: "Hawks in the Hand: Adventures in Photography and Falconry" by Frank and John Craighead. http://www.amazon.com/Hawks-Hand-Adventures-Photography-Falconry/dp/1558215603
vettechmomof2
We have a good book Called Falconry Art and Practice by Emma Ford. It has color pictures and b & w. How to train, feed, care for, build a home for, etc. Lots of detail with a glossary of falconry terms and def. in the back of the book as well. tntgoodwin
The My Side of the Mountain series (trilogy?) was good, as far as fiction goes.
