Embassy
I know of a situation where a father told his 4 year old son that the boy's mother was going to go to jail, but not to worry because the boy wouldn't be there when they came to get her. The father and mother are separated and are now going through a nasty divorce. The mother hasn't come close to doing anything worthy of being arrested. Sophia
Abuse according to whom? I don't think it's enough to call CPS and get a reaction, but something worth mom noting for her attorney. Sadly, I think this sort of ugliness happens a lot in divorces.
Dobela
If she isn't following court orders of some sort, then she could possibly be arrested if the judge so chooses. Is it abuse? If it continues, I would consider it emotional abuse because to a 4yr that is very upsetting to hear. Can anything be done about it? Have mom see her attorney. Word Nerd
It sounds like parental alienation.
Harriet Vane
Legally, no. But yes, it's ugly behavior and not right to do to a child.

The children fall last on the list of priorities for many people.

SailorMom
Ok - I agree this is upsetting to the 4 year old - but if the mom really is getting arrested - what should the dad tell the child? If she isn't- then that is nasty, and the mom definately needs to tell her attorney about it.
KatieH
Manipulative and sick, for sure. I doubt it meets legal definitions of abuse, though :(
