ThelmaLou
I've seen one on Amazon by Schylling and another from Vision Forum. We used to have the Vision Forum set, but the sword broke. Anyone have reviews on the Schylling set or any other wooden sword and shield? My 4 wants one for his birthday. Thanks!
annlaura
Funny, my DS will be getting a wooden sword in a couple of weeks, and then a shield for his 4th birthday in a couple of months. :) The sword will be bought at an historical festival we participate in. I may buy a shield there too, but have also been considering the Schylling one or a couple from etsy. Curious for reviews. :bigear:
DarcyB
We got the wooden one before, which break if you use them well :) We ended up going with the Nerf-like ones from the toy store (sturdy, not the foam one), and the kids can do a ton of damage with them without actually damaging themselves or the swords/shields or our house. They have outlasted the wooden shields/swords and are used more, which make them bonus in my book ;)
Haiku
We got our wooden swords at the Renaissance Festival. Three years later they are still going strong (despite heavy daily usage). My dh made the kids their shields. Aside from playsilks, the sword/shield sets have been the best toys we've ever had. Tara
Chris in VA
If you have a Medieval Times around, you might try shopping there. We have real historical swords around here--can't play with them! lol
momtotkbb
I can't imagine the Vision Forum ones breaking. We have two sets that have been used heavily for several years by a number of "boys" ranging in age from 4-51. They have a few dings in them - but they've never broken. I got unto my oldest (22) and dh for fighting with them so rough --but the swords have taken a beating and live to go on.
Dmmetler
Lego has a nice set that is made of a durable foam-type stuff. They seem to hold up...well...like legos! We got ours at a Lego store, but they're probably available online.
juelle
Timberdoodle has a set of Mashoonga Sabers which look like fun. BellaLuna Toys, has a beautiful wooden set under the dress ups tab. medievalfantasiesco has great stuff under 'childrens' arms and armor'. Kim in Appalachia
2, they were for my 2 older boys when the boys were still quite young, maybe 7 and 4. My kids still play with them. They are kept outside and get used along with the lightsabers. Swords are always fun. It only took a couple of hits to know to stay back and be careful not really wack each other. :D

Tara Ditto Still going strong. One even came with a sheath. Maybe you can find some from a renaissance vendor on ebay.
Haiku
It only took a couple of hits to know to stay back and be careful not really wack each other. :D My kids frequently wear snow gloves when they play with their swords. It still stings but doesn't bruise. :D Tara
Mom-ninja.
I bought the Schylling one from Rainbow Resource a couple years ago. My boys didn't like them much because they always ended up sitting each other's hands. I ended up taking a noodle (pool noodle) and cutting to the length of the sword and pushed the sword into it. Works great!
