MamaSheep
I would like to teach my kids the basics of reading music--things like staff, bar lines, measures, time signatures, names of the notes on the staff, note values, etc. But I don't want to spend any more money if I can possibly help it. Is there something online that's free to print out and has simple lessons on this already put together? It's something I know enough about to teach them without much in the way of pre-prepped lessons, but right now I don't want to have to think about it much, I would really rather just have something I can print and file and just pull out and read through it when we get there. KWIM? Anything like that out there?

MamaSheep
This looks like a fun website, there are a lot of online games and lessons as well as printable worksheets. That does look fun. I'm not sure it's quite what I'm wishing for, but I'll poke around a bit more there and see. Thanks! :)
MamaSheep
Well, I think I've decided to settle on this music conducting course from my church. It's a the very beginning level I need and also teaches a practical skill (conducting hymns) that could actually be useful in their future lives. sarawatsonim
I've looked at this site here for free bass lessons for my husband. He is self trained and wanted to learn the technical stuff. It's all free and if you search theory or exactly what you are looking for it may pull up some interesting lessons.
Zoo Keeper
Take a hop over to Making Music Fun. Thanks for the link; I had forgotten about the theory sheets over there. My boys loved doing the composer coloring pages and word searches last year.

HSMom2One
There also Music Ace Deluxe software that teaches music for beginners and also has some really fun music games. Here is a link to check it out. While it isn't free, it is much less expensive than music lessons. Blessings, Lucinda
