Bitdefender stinks! I need a firewall/antivirus rec

I don't want McAfee or Norton. Two times, I have had to rely on Malware Bytes to remove viruses that Bitdefender didn't even detect.

 

Is Malware Bytes a great program in itself? What else is out there that actually works?

On the recommendation of a computer savvy hsing dad, we use AVG free. It's been great for us!

Microsoft Security Essentials. It's free and it works!!! I have NEVER had a virus or malware, it catches them!

Antivirus: AVG, Avast

 

Spyware: Spybot

Note: Malware and viruses are two different types of things. I've had to use Malwarebytes to remove stuff that McAfee didn't detect as well -- because mcAfee is a virus detector and malwarebytes deals with malware.

 

I know that they both seem like viruses to us, when the malware is not something we want (Some people choose to install malware! Believe it or not). But they are different

I thought Trojan and Vista Antivirus virus were both viruses. This http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php got rid of both. My Bitdefender didn't find either one.

 

The Vista antivirus was malicious and included about 20 files.

The Antivirus thing is actually malware -- or rather, a rogue anti-spyware program (That's what I got) Antivirus 2009 or something like that.

 

Don't know about Trojan.
