Middle School Books Not to Miss

Would anyone be willing to share their lists of books not to miss in middle school? My dd has been reading mostly historical fiction the last couple of years, and will do SL Core 100 next year. I know there are great books out there, such as The Giver that she has not read. She has read The Lightning Thief series and The Hunger Games series and loved them, if that lets you into her nature at all.

I am working on a summer reading list for her. Thanks for any input!

We read many on Lori D's list. We are currently revisiting The Lion, the Witch, the Wardrobe and will finish the year with Animal Farm and maybe The Westing Game.

A few more that ds enjoyed this year are Witch of Blackbird Pond, The Outsiders, The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle and Crispin. He LOVED the Giver.

These might be on our summer reading list: The Thief, Where the Red Fern Grows, Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, The Underland Chronicles, The Phantom Tollbooth, Fever 1793.

ETA: These may be fun: The Ranger's Apprentice series, The Nicholas Flamel series, 100 Cupboards, Fablehaven series, Septimus Heap series, Sisters Grimm
