Anybody light up a pickle?

Recommended Posts

Ds bought a huge pickle from the grocery store. He read somewhere that it would glow if he ran electricity through it. He's tried a 8 volt and a 12 volt battery but got nothing. When he googled, a site said to put the wires into a light socket. That seems dangerous to me. . . Anybody do this in a safe way?

Sounds really dangerous and would be really awkward to explain to the paramedics when someone gets hurt....'I was only trying to light my pickle'....hummm.

Oh no, now ds wants to try it!:tongue_smilie:

Jean,

My dh said that whoever is holding the pickle and the wires should do so with a pair of insulated pliers.

He also says do not be alarmed if your pickle explodes!

This sounds just like something my 16yo would try. I am NOT going to let him see this post.

Something else to think about is not holding it with two hands. When both hand are getting shocked, the surge goes through your heart (closed circuit) versus just getting a good shock. It is also good to only use one hand when plugging things...
