ScoutTN
How good/useful are these? If you liked them why? If not, why not? Asking for a friend who is thinking about buying them for her 1st, 3rd and 5th graders. I like Jim Weiss' other cds, but haven't heard these. Thanks! :bigear:
ProudGrandma
We like them. They aren't fancy or entertaining, but my kids prefer them over me reading the material...and I prefer them over me reading too...I butcher the names of people and places. I stop the CD on occasion to ask questions or repeat information. But the kids do like them.
Jen the RD
Our whole family loves the CD's. We have ancients and modern times and like them equally well. We primarily listen to them in the car to enhance what we're learning in history. So, they are a fun supplement, but I do not evaluate dc on what they have heard. It's very surprising how much they have retained using this method. Planning to buy the middle ages series for our coming year. AmeliaBinMO
We used the SOTW cds in the car. It was wonderful to get some use out of the driving time! When we were at home, my kids preferred me reading the material because that would allow us the ability to easily pause and discuss. I just loved the cds for the car, though! Sara in WA
Love, love, love the CDs. Always our most used homeschool purchase. This year we listened to vol 1 on our drives to music lessons. My dd 9 eats these up. We just got her volume 4 - for fun! She listens to them all.the.time.
LisaC
We have thoroughly enjoyed them. I have a ds (3rd grade), and he looks forward to listening to the CD's every lesson. My ds reads along in his book, and we do map work and activities together after that. Just to echo what kfeusse said, we much prefer them to my reading. Even my dd (8th grade) enjoys listening to them--they are a fun addition to her curriculum.
mjbucks1
I have used them for all four books and we LOVE them. We have used them for Sonlight Core 6 & 7 so it has saved my voice. I also love that I can take them in the car with us!!!

EppieJ
How good/useful are these? If you liked them why? If not, why not? :bigear: Well, let me put it this way. Each time I hand ds the newest volume (we now have all 4) he jumps up and down, takes it from me and heads to his room where he stays for hours at a time, listening and playing with his legos. :D 'nuf said? The kid knows way more history than I ever did and listens to these cds multiple times. After volume 1 I quit scheduling SOTW. He does it on his own! Julie in Monterey
We've downloaded all four year's of the CD's to our IPOD's. They are a perfect compliment to the spines. I wouldn't just use the CD but as a compliment. All members of our family enjoy them (grown-ups included) Julie in Monterey
Saille
I love these. We adore Jim Weiss anyway, so I'm sure that helps. We rip them onto the iPod, also, and I'll regularly pause playback in the car so we can talk about what's going on. I'd say that the CDs are instrumental to keeping up with our history during busy weeks. In fact, I've become a huge fan of audiobooks in general as a homeschooling tool. On this most recent vacation, I finished Religious Literacy, and the kids listened to Charlotte's Web, The Black Cauldron, and part of the second Mysterious Benedict Society book.
