ScoutTN
Okay, for a lefty K'er who can write her name and likes to write/color, do I need the wooden blocks and the slate? Or are they nice but not necessary?
Doodle
My lefty picked up and started to use a pencil when he was 2 years old. At age 4 I started him in the HWT K book. The only other thing I got was the small slate, but we never really used it.
cbollin
The wooden blocks are mostly for upper case and having a tactile way to learn the basics of letter formation "big line" little line, big curve little curve. nice for puzzles too. (probably not needed) the slate -- great way to practice over and over without it having to be on paper. they can practice in dirt, sand, salt tray, dry erase -- i would consider the slate or some other kind of multisensory, easy to erase and do over option. both items are easy for lefties (my oldest).... -crystal
kmacnchs
I started my leftie early so we did the wooden blocks (actually, I cut out the patterns and made "blocks" w/cardboard cheerio boxes) for fun but I did not think they were necessary. The slate was for us though. It was GREAT to use for practice!
Sasharowan
I have taken 2 lefties and 1 righty through HWT without any extras except a magnadoodle and a slate. It wasn't the slate from the company but another one we already had.
ALB
(actually, I cut out the patterns and made "blocks" w/cardboard cheerio boxes) I cut ours from foam sheets. Not too necessary, but my dd does enjoy them.
