What are you using for writing next year?

Classical Writing Aesop B, and probably into Homer A before the school year is over.

This year for 5th, we are using the writing that is included with R&S English. My son is a struggling writer, so we are taking it slow.

I'll be using SWB's plan from the A Plan for Teaching Writing Middle Grades mp3, along with Writing Strands (because I'm too chicken to go completely alone) for my 5th & 6th graders this fall.

 

For my current 5th grader, he did the writing in R&S English 4, Imitations in Writing Aesop, and he's currently in a creative writing class at co-op and he's written a couple of speeches for his public speaking chapter.

Classical Writing - finishing B and moving into Homer A.

My younger son is not much of a writer. Last year for fifth grade I used WordSmith Apprentice with him. It worked out well and he liked it.

I started IEW with my 5th grader this year. I bought the SWI so he could watch Andrew teach some of the units. I'm very pleased with his writing and how much it's improved since the beginning of the year. He also does some copywork/ journaling/ narration.

Classical Writing Aesop B here too. We just started A and I hope to be in B by the start of next school year.

At the moment we are doing:

 

1. LLATL Purple: although this is technically a 'complete' program, there is quite a lot of writing involved in it.

2. Dictation 2x a week.

3. Compositions using vocab words from dictation passage.

Classical Writing Homer A, plus their Poetry for Beginners.

We are currently using Classical Writing Aesop, but we are looking into switching to IEW.
