S in Canada Posted March 22, 2010 Share Posted March 22, 2010 If I start with MCT level 1 for my 9 yr old dd. Is there anything I need to add for English. Other than spelling which I was going to use Spelling workout. Would this qualify as a complete English curriculum? Thanks to all in advance! It basically boils down to me assigning DD some books that I consider worthy of being counted as schoolwork and discussing them with her once a week. MariannNOVA Posted March 22, 2010 Share Posted March 22, 2010 Hi -- We do IEW spelling (Phonetic Zoo) Level B and that completes Language Arts for DD fifth grade. She also does Casear's English I. She has done Grammar Voyage and is now in Paragraph Town. We found Essay Voyage a bit too difficult even though she has had three years of IEW Writing, so we bumped down to Para Town -- she is also doing the sentences in Practice Island. The twins (who are nine) do Phonetic Zoo Level A and that completes their Language ARts. They have done Grammar Island and are now in Sentence Island. They are doing Practice Island and Building Vocabulary. For literature, DD fifth grade is doing History Odyssey Middle Ages Level 2 and she is reading the Literature and doing the assignments in that curric. She is also a voracious reader so she always had two or three books going on at once. The twins are reading literature that I select based upon what their sister read at that age and on my experience as a classroom teacher. EKS Posted March 22, 2010 Share Posted March 22, 2010 We do additional writing. We started the year doing WWE2 and are now he is just doing paragraph writing about things we are studying. Also, I am doing WWE in conjunction with Island as it's teaching entirely different skills, and I think it's complementary. If you had a strong writer already, it might not be necessary.
