HappyGrace
She will need to have downtime for maybe months to recuperate. Some of her favorite books are Sign of the Beaver, Calico Captive, My Side of the Mountain, Misty of Chicoteague, Little Women, etc. I'm basically looking for conservative but not boring books-something with a nice pace to it and not dull or tons of narrative or she gives up on it. I've been wracking my brain and drawing a blank! Thanks!

Karen in CO
Trumpet of the Swan and Charlotte's Web are both great on audio - E.B. White narrates them Also storynory.com has a great selection - the Rikki Tikki Tavi is superb and they are all free.
Mothersweets
You've received some great suggestions! I'd like to suggest a book that my younger kids and I listened to last summer - THe City Under the Back Steps My 10yo dd loved this one and even a couple of my teens who were listening along (we were all in the car) enjoyed it as well.
