Jen500
Ds10 is enjoying his violin lessons. Besides the violin, he just has a music stand and an Itzhak Perlman cd. Any suggestions? Are there any specific rosin brands that are better?
plain jane
Do you have a metronome? I've always thought that having one would be handy, especially in the beginning and I know my violinists would benefit from having one. Kun makes nice shoulder rests in different colors that your son might like. How about a book of simple Christmas songs so he can play for the family during the holidays? secular_mom
I LOVE our tuner that clips onto the string instruments, it's great. It works by detecting the vibrations from the notes on strings, or it can be used to tune other instruments like a regular tuner. Just an idea. He does have a Kun shoulder rest. :001_smile: Metronome--great idea! I remember that he said he uses one during his lesson. Any specific suggestion for that? Any specific suggestion for that? Sorry, I have no suggestions as I've been thinking (but not researching/looking) about buying one for a while now. It just jumped out at me as one of those things that would come in very handy. Hopefully someone here will be able to help both of us. :)
Jen500
Ooooo. Tell me more about this... better yet, please post a link! I need one of those! :bigear: I got my other son an IMT500 clip-on for his guitar (about $15), but ds can't get it to work with his violin. I haven't tried it myself, though. It works fine on the guitar.

hillfarm
What about a wall hanger made to hold his violin? I find that I play mine much more if it is out and I see it all the time, instead of hidden away in its case. Get one that is made for a violin and that has a little keeper strap so it won't fall if it gets bumped.
zaichiki
How about a gel chin rest cover? Or... here's a link to our favorite strings store that has *all* the goodies: (this is their "stocking stuffer" page) http://www.johnsonstring.com/cgi-bin/accessorysearch/accessorysearch.cgi?select1=SS&file=sale_stockingstuffers&forcestyle=1 Have fun! ETA: My kids LOVE their "Strad" rosin. It's on that page (most of the way down, I think). You might also check out Shar. They've got some good stuff, too. http://www.sharmusic.com/ Edited November 22, 2009 by zaichiki
