Lined child raincoat...we have outgrown Wipettes

Recommended Posts

This rubbery outside, thin cottony lining raincoats are perfect for our weather. Pop them over a turtleneck shirt and kiddo was warm enough.

These only seem to go up to age 6 or so. I know I've seen knockoffs at Goodwill, but can't remember a brand.

I'm not looking for a gore-tex, removable-lining, "breathable" raincoat for 89 bucks. We get wet here, and there is often one drying, one in the car, and one on his back.

Anyone else make something like this? Thanks

Also looking for wooly mittens (which are cheap and everywhere) BUT with rubbery things on the palms so kiddo can hold bike handles with them. Again, we don't need Arctic wear. It is usually 40 and damp. Anyone seen them?

When my boys were younger, we went with a fleece jacket (from Goodwill) and a rain poncho, similar to this one:

As for the gloves, I've found them at Fred Meyer's, TJ Maxx, Ross Dress for Less... but I don't have a single reliable source to point you to. I'll look in the closet, and see if we have any little-guy sizes. But I did a big purge a while back, and I'm thinking the small stuff was donated.

Are you talking about Wippettes? If so, this particular one comes in a 10/12

Here's one in a 14/16:

Here's a couple that have sizes 8-16:

I'll let you know if I can find any of the type of glove you are looking for.

My kids wore the kind with the plaid liner until they felt too old for that (around 10). They were made by Essex or London Fog; you can find them on ebay sometimes. Now they wear Land's End (which you can also sometimes find on ebay) - lined for cold weather and unlined when it's warm.

Well, Google does do better if you spell it right. I did get 3 pages of hits with Wipettes, but there were only little ones.

Why would they be called Wippettes? You can't wash them, you WIPE them off. Oh well.

Do let me know about the gloves. I googled grip and mittens etc. Hubby looked at Costco and I"ve hit Fred Meyer, Target, and MallWart.

Thanks.

Yes, I'll take fleece lined. Lined raincoats are so perfect for our weather, I'm surprized they aren't peddled on the street corners (but I'm weird with a Mac and a bottom freezer and a preference for standard shift cars.....I also like the high/low beam switch on the floor by my left foot).

Thank you thank you

For the gloves we have a ton of those - dh usually gets them at sporting good stores.

Terrific. I thank everyone. I cannot tell you how much I hate to shop! Its because I'm an old-fashioned weirdo, and what I want is not what every store has busting in its window (the latest fad), and I have to look and look. How do other kids ride bikes in the cold?

Haven't come across the gloves yet! Sorry...I will let you know if I do come across them (irl or on the web).
