What is your favorite tea cup?

Recommended Posts

All of us are tea drinkers and love our Chef's Choice electric water kettle. I'd like to replace our current coffee cups and get a set with a variety of colors so cups do not get mixed up while in use. Any recommendations? Do you prefer glass or ceramic? What about travel tea cups? Where can I find your recommendations?

By your subject line I thought you meant "kind" of tea--Earl Grey or chai for me.

As for the actual cups, I prefer a weird assortment of mismatched ceramic coffee cups, themed porcelain tea cups (their shapes are more or less the same but they all have different colored flowers) or matching white Corelle teacups. For travel we use plastic lidded mugs that we can open & close the sippy-hole with one finger. I think we just picked them up at gas stations or in the grocery store coffee aisle.

No dainty teacups at our house! I use a 20 oz. clear glass mug. I like glass. The rest of our mugs are stoneware in different colors so everyone knows which one is theirs. Travel tea goes in a thermal mug, available through Yoplait, manufactured by Stanley. It doesn't begin to fit in the Subaru cup holders, but I sure know how to balance it on top and catch it when rounding corners!

There are two (very different) styles I particularly like.

1) Traditional Japanese ceramic mugs with an non-glossy glaze (matt) on the exterior. Comforting.

2) English bone-china (very thin, but strong) but not in the tea-cup and saucer style, rather in an taller almost straight sided style (with some flair at the lip) and with a handle. Elegant.
