Osmosis Mom
What do you recommend for immediate relief? This has recurred after a 3 week untreated episode. SHould we request antibiotics or can we take care of it on our own?
Maria from IN
Some people are against antibiotics because they don't want to become resistant to their effects, but given the state of things lately (swine flu and all, doncha know) I would think that they are probably a good idea right now...just to get rid of it once and for all. I would hate to be immuno-compromised at a time like this. Your experience may vary, however. :001_smile:
coffeefreak
When I get that bad I HAVE to get the antibiotics. I think it is probably time :grouphug:
KrissiK
I got rid of my last sinus infection by rinsing my nose with saline solution. And I mean, I rinsed. I put 1 quart of the stuff up my nose 4-5 times a day, every day for about a week. And it went away. And it felt good to do all that rinsing. I never go on antibiotics unless I'm dying because I have a lot of trouble with Candida.

I now have all three kids doing a saline wash twice a day just as a precaution (very neti-like).
Tree House Academy
My neti pot is my best friend. I use it daily - along with a steroid nasal spray. My sinuses are a complete mess. If you are having a lot of pain, try Aleve D - it has sudafed to help with the pressure and Aleve to stop the pain. Sometimes it is all that works for me. ChristusG
The one time I had a sinus infection, I had it BAD. Fever, congestion, head feeling like it was going to explode, bad pressure in my face....I had to get antibiotics.
LG Gone Wild
I had it once and it was the sickest I had ever been. Lots of my hair fell out to add to all the other miseries. My doc actually sighed when he diagnosed sinusitis.

Osmosis Mom
We started her on echninacea late last night as we don't have insurance except for college insurance for her. Hopefully that will help, otherwise she can see health services at college next week.

I'll also get her some Sudafed D as recommended.
Remudamom
This is off the wall, but my dh's lyme disease manifested itself in a chronic sinus infection. When he'd get on antibiotics it would get better, then come back again when he was off. Now that he's on big long term antibiotics he's licking it.
