rlowetx
First, since this is our first year hs (and we're doing "2nd" grade), I love this post.. it is helping me so much.. Here is what we have so far: Spelling: Spelling Workout 3 Grammar: Shurley English 2 Copywork: WWE 1 History: SOTW 1 Math: Singapore Math 3A/B and will be applying for Stanford U's online program (this is his favorite subject) Music: No program, weekly listening to classical pieces and investigating the composers Art: No program, once a month at the local art museum for their hs program - will use this as the base for the following 3 weeks (1x a week). Language: Lively Latin? Still looking what the best beginning program is.. G- also wants to study Arabic.. um, yeah, haven't quite decided on that one yet.. Still need: Science program: I have NO clue,.. we need something with lots of hands on experiments.. trying to figure out if we should do our own thing or follow the WTM stages. Handwriting: He wants to work on cursive, but HATES writing.. so still investing the best program If anyone notices that I left something out or suggests something different, please let me know....We are SOOOO excited for the potential that is this coming year (I know, naive newbie).. but still, to actually KNOW what he is going to be learning and helping design what is important for him to know.. it is just so empowering. kalanamak
Science program: I have NO clue,.. we need something with lots of hands on experiments.. trying to figure out if we should do our own thing or follow the WTM stages. I'm a science geek and rowed my own boat for the first half of 1st grade. It is WORK coming up with experiments. I chose: R.E.A.L (RSO) http://www.pandiapress.com/real_science.htm We loved bio and the earth sci looks great. I got the damaged spine chem and it looks fab as well. Mama Lynx
2nd Grade: Math - Right Start B/C (he got part way through B in first grade) Writing - WWE2 Grammar - FLL2 Spelling - AAS Handwriting - TBD Literature/History/Classical Studies from LCC (We may or may not do TOG Y3/4 Lower Grammar. At this age I'd rather focus on the LCC selections. We'll likely do whatever of TOG does not crowd us or stress us after the LCC work.) Piano Scouts We may be doing a one day a week co-op, at which he will have some science, art, and perhaps some very elementary Latin or Greek alphabet work.
