  1. Yes, FLL4 will review all of this enough that he could start FLL4. Check out the publisher's website for what is covered: http://www.peacehillpress.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=120
  2. Yes, that would seem the order I would do them in, as well. Have fun!
  3. I changed the Tree in the Trail ....it starts 1610!
  4. Paddle to the Sea - about 1941 (I believe Holling wrote it to portray his time??) Tree in the Trail - life of a tree and its journey...about early/mid 1700's -1834 (history of the Southwest & Santa Fe) Seabird - 1818 -1923 (timeline in back pages of book) Minn of the Mississippi - not quite sure...talks about evolution then talks about the French Fur Trades.. Talks about Mississippi history, who founded it in 1539. 1800's??? Covers 25 years of a turtle's life.
  5. questions: --- Is FLL 3 okay for my ds 5th grade? I think it will be too easy...I would switch to either FLL 4 or R & S 4...this topic has come-up in the past with some others on this board....R & S 5 would be too difficult. --- What level WWE should he start at? If he is accustomed to narration and does some dictation already..start on at level 3...he may find he will get through that quite quickly and you can then move onto level 4. If not, start at level 2 and work at his pace (which will probably be quite fast). --- Since they are doing FLL and WWE is it okay to skip the TOG writing assignments? Or does that create problems? I have not used TOG, but have read over and over on this board that FLL and WWE is enough writing on its own at this age....so yes, you will have enough writing in FLL or R &S and WWE. Skipping the TOG writing is what many people do. I think I want to transition them to Rod & Staff. Have any of you done this? Or do you consider it better to stick with FLL? Transitioning to Rod & Staff is what many do after completing FLL 1/2 or at any point in the series!
  6. :iagree:We love Vos'. My DD is starting to read it on her own along with her own Bible.
  7. I thought I would send a reminder to those of you who are interested. Reading Incentive Program...free pizza.... Here is the link to the sign-up: http://www.bookitprogram.com/enrollment/k6enroll.asp
  8. Has anyone used Spelling Town DVD for a fun way to learn spelling rules? http://funwithphonograms.com/?page_id=4
  9. We planned one chpt./week....some weeks we did two chapters, as they were quite short. We did/do history twice a week and use the activity guide, as well! That does mean about 39 weeks or so...we just carry that over into the summer for some fun reading or bedtime stories. Just remember to have fun with it!
  10. I've knon this all along....didn't have a microwave for some time....got one for convenience sake...especially one DH got diagnosed with celiacs....making two meals is no fun! Microwave litterally just blew up last week! Didn't use it much anyway..especially with the food the kids ate! Coincidence?...there are no coincidences!
  11. We will be starting Sept. 14th. Hubby has vacation the first part of Sept., plus we are just getting done with last year now! (We school year round, light during the summer; however, this year we also had a baby...so we took some extra time off during the winter and were making up for lost yet meaningful time.)
  12. Someone already mentioned this...The Complete Book of....series... For example: The Complete Book of Geography...it is a workbook...fun and easy (and they are learning)! Here is a link (it says 3rd-6th grader....but many home educators use it starting in 2nd grade): http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Book-Maps-Geography/dp/1561895032/ref=sr_1_1/192-1125201-9765300?ie=UTF8&qid=1248692943&sr=8-1
  13. None of the suggestions offer any workbooks, as none are needed! However, if you are looking for something to occupy your 2nd grader so that you can work with your 5 your old...consider having a "schedule" to make it work for all of you... for example: handwriting/cursive & Spelling (Spelling Workout) for your 2nd grader will mostly be done on own time so you can do phonics lesson with your Kindergartener craft/independent play time with your kindergartener while you do FLL with your 2nd grader (set aside puzzles, toys, crafts that can be done independently to keep kindergartener occupied this can also be done for 2nd grader...here is where the dollar store comes in really handy, as well!) while doing math with your 2nd grader your kindergartener can play with manipulatives or do a friendly, easy kindergartener math workbook etc.... For an idea on scheduling, check out my blog, if interested to see how our schedule works....also consider doing workboxes (http://docs.google.com/View?docID=dwstdgn_447mphsmf8&revision=_latest) Also MOTH (Managers of Their Home) www.titus2.com helped me, when I started....great for scheduling "educating" time and just household responsibility time! Also, Tot School (http://lapbooksbycarisa.homestead.com/TotSchool.html) gave me wonderful inspiration for being creative with "free time" for my younger ones...you can spin off with this idea to keep Kindergartener occupied and even 2nd grader occupied when working with the other....even my 2nd grader loves water play time!
  14. We used the ETC workbooks without the teacher manual (I owned it, just never used it)....the test was easy to figure out without the teacher manual. (After workbook 1 & 2 we then used Alphaphonics....where they just took off...ETC definitely initiated their launch!)
  15. On the narration: Charlotte Mason-based education is the classical approach to educating the whole child. Charlotte Mason "developed" the concept of narration in Britain at the close of the nineteenth century. http://www.home-school.com/Articles/AndreolaNarration.html (Overview of narration, plus "how to do it") http://simplycharlottemason.com/timesavers/narration/ (Narration ideas) WTM might throw in questions, to help jog memory....but the overall method is the same!
  16. Wal-mart, even better yet...since I also have a discount card (my husband is an Assistant Store Manager)!
  17. Thanks for the idea, I was looking for something like this! I'll be using it to store workbooks, etc...not in use during that particular day....since we already have a system in place for our boxes...I also think it would help to divide up the toddler books (ie: number books vs. alphabet books, etc...) 18. Thanks for your thoughts. I think I'll purchase the student pages of the revised AG. Any idea if the actual activities in the teacher section are different in the revised edition vs. the original edition of the SOTW Vol. 2 AG? Christine respectful wife to DH mom to 4 AP kids
  19. Bump :) Christine respectful wife to DH mom to 4 AP kids
  20. I just noticed that when I bought Vol. 2 of SOTW that I have the revised ed., but own the old AG. Is the old AG okay...or would it be best to get the new AG? What is in the new AG Vol. 2 that is not in the old? Thanks, Christine respectful wife to DH mom to 4 AP kids
  21. I would suggest checking out Meet the Masters...the Program Manual is FREE...you can download it at: http://www.getinvolvedineducation.com/pdfs/For-Program-Managers/Meet-the-Masters-Program-Manual.pdf Christine respectful wife to DH mom to 4 AP kids
  22. Thanks for all the ideas...I think I will see how it goes with using a timer set for 30 min./day (Mon.-Thurs.) I will add the CWP after a lesson in the textbook and workbook are complete. Christine respectful wife to DH mom to 4 AP kids
  23. We use it! We love it! We also add in further living books about the artist, if our local libraries have any great ones! In fact, I have the FREE download for the Meet the Masters program manual!
