  2. Your post is exactly what I'm looking for in my science program, as well....which is why I went with Noeo Biology I, with a bit of tweeking(mostly because my children are older)!;) I already purchased all the Noeo Books and Materials, so from there I looked at the schedule and inputed some living lit books! (Ignore the lack of caps...I just took from my notes ever so quickly!):tongue_smilie: Books I hope to add to the Noeo Program (Many inspired from LivingBooksCurriculum.com). Our local libraries have these available for check-out: week 5 amoeba hop w/CD (One of my friends love this!) week 5 What's Alive? by Kathleen Weidner Zoehfeld week 5 how leaves change week 12-15 how's inky: a porcupine and his pals (Maybe too much for a 1st grader) weeks 16 birds, nests, and eggs by mel boring weeks 17 Secrets of Animal Flight week 18 bird talk weeks 28-30 dem bones by bob barner week 33 The Reason for a flower by ruth heller week 37+ listening to crickets: a story about rachel carson by Candice F. Ransom (maybe too much for a 1st grader) Books of ours that we will possibly add to Noeo: Week 37+ Pagoo by Holling C. Holling week 37+ Nature Journal week 7-23 DK Ency. of Animals (WTM recommendation, extra reference) week 23, 24, & 26-31 DK Human Body (very fun quick experiments...can't wait!!!! Definitely for a 1st grader, but adding it anyway!!):D weeks 33-36+ Green Thumbs (WTM recommendation...I feel Noeo is a bit weak in the area of plants....and this is just plain fun and easy to incorporate...even if it goes into the summer months!!) 3. I agree with The Easy French! I have tried some of CM ideas via Ambleside Online...some of the programs they recommended were a total rip-off....so we are going with The Easy French! We have also tried PowerGlide French which is okay, but not our favorite! Christine Jena (
  4. How about the MUS Demo video with him explaining Decimal Street?.....it is about 8 min. 53 seconds into it Video: http://www.mathusee.com/demo.html Actual Lesson plan of Decimal Street: http://www.mathusee.com/pdfs/primersample.pdf I don't own Math-U-See, but I borrowed from this idea to show my children Decimal Street. They occastionally ask me to retell the story of "Decimal Street"! Christine wife and mom to 4 Jena (3rd grade '09-'10) Aodan (2nd grade '09-'10) Espen (Pre-K) Cormack (baby)
  5. There was a previous post just a week or two ago with a wonderful link to pictures, etc...and links to the blogs of families who have implemented this idea: http://docs.google.com/View?docID=dwstdgn_447mphsmf8&revision=_latest (corrected the link, should work now) I used the drawers on roller idea...I only have 8....which works for us! I just bought a 7 roller cart at Wal-mart and added another drawer. Works amazingly...I am definitely saving my vocal chords (no more constant reminders, telling them what to grab next)! Wonderful idea! As one poster mentioned in another post...it is too bad I didn't think of this idea! With the rollers, I'm able to place them in a walk-in closet at the end of the lessons! Christine
  6. I'm almost positive I read it on her website or blog just the other month...I thought it said Aug or Sept for release...I was planning on purchasing it too! Christine
  7. We just recently started Letter of the Week with my soon to be 3 year old. I am ecstatic about all the ideas in the FREE curriculum! Well organized. I printed it off from the computer and placed it all in a binder. I was never too great about doing nursery rhymes with my older children, so I'm excited for the journey.
  8. You don't need the teacher's text...just the student text that includes the CD is all that is needed. Christine wife and mom to 4 DD 8.5 DS 6.5 DS almost 3 DS 5 months
  9. I have decided to purchase Song School Latin! The reviews from others on this board over the last few months always seem positive! I want to give my children an exciting intro, and I think this will do it! I can't wait to start Lively Latin in our household. My dd will be starting 3rd grade and my ds (will be turning 7 in Oct.) will be starting 2nd grade. I'll be waiting to start Lively Latin until the following year...that way both can do it when my ds is a bit older. I came across a post about a comarison chart of other programs a few months back: Nice chart comparison of Latin curricula http://www.redshift.com/~bonajo/latincurricula.htm Try the search feature on this board and put in the specific name of the Latin you're interested in. 10. I'm so glad you posted this question! I saw the previous thread about Queen Homeschool and immediately eyed the cursive program, as well. To intertwine picture study and cursive, simply brilliant! We have been using A Reason for Handwriting for cursive, but the children frequently want me to provide a cursive sentence for them to copy and draw a picture pertaining to the sentence. I was thinking I may just create my own sentences and use our own picture study. Though it would be nice to just buy the program already made...the pricing is a bit too much for me, when you take into consideration all the workbooks. 11. I vote for First Language Lessons (FLL) if she is 9 and younger. Though, I enjoyed it at my age and learned a lot...I always felt my grammar skills were poor! I wish I was taught through FLL. You can always move through the program at a faster pace. This is what I did with my dd, who will be in 3rd grade. I and my children find the program fun (I'm not saying everyone finds it so) and there is tons of repetition...I allow them to move and squirm in the living room while we do the lessons...then they sit at the table for written work. Hope this helps. Christine wife and mom to 4
  12. If he is already accustomed to copywork and narration, I would start him at least at the half-way mark of Level 2. You will probably find that he can do even more and you may find yourself moving him through the program at a faster pace (skipping through some of the weeks). I think you will find that he will be ready for Level 3 quite quickly! I found this to be the case with my dd who I started using WWE mid-way through this "school" year....I had her start with Level 1 and she is almost done with Level 2. We love WWE....I have become empowered as an educator and she has become empowered in her abilities as a writer! Christine wife and mom to 4 DD 8.5 DS 6.5 DS almost 3 DS 4.5 months
  13. We used Natural Speller for a few months. The ideas and lists seemed logically. I was excited to start our spelling adventure with what I thought was an insightful book! For the first few weeks my daughter flourished, but then it became a chore to get her to complete her daily word list activities. She also started to do poorly on the weekly test. Nevertheless, we switched to Sequential Spelling about 4 months ago. She and my younger son are loving it (he just wanted to do what she was doing)! They are flourishing and write so much more outside of lessons! I do like the list of spelling rules in Natural Speller. (Though you can find spelling rules on the net/other books!) It all depends on your educating philosophies! I personally think the Natural Speller method was busywork. For us, many of the activities were already incorporated into our grammar lessons through FLL. Just my thoughts and experience...hope this helps.;)

  15. My children are currently using Miquon Math. My DD will be in third grade and completing Miquon. I have added word problems from Singapore Math and have added further multiplication work. I will add further division work for her this upcoming year (her last year with Miquon). Any suggestions/ideas for a math program for her after Miquon? She is flourishing with the discovery method. Then again, it could be that I love math myself...she may just be catching on to my enthusiasm for the subject. For those of you who used Miquon for your child(ren): After they completed Miquon, what math program did work/not work for your child? Thanks for any ideas/guidance!
