Agree with Kissy. The Usborne books are more like a spine. Definitely get the combined volume (Encyclopedia of World History) as it is a much better value (paperback for 19.99). It goes along well with SOTW, and the activity guide in SOTW actually lists which pages in the Usborne book to reference, I believe.
I remember reading somewhere that one of the criteria for her top 100 was that the series be complete. Since GWG is not, I don't think it would have been considered.
Nah. That would kind of take the home out of homeschool. :)
Besides, I don't want my kids to get the idea that learning only takes place in a certain setting. (Like ps, where learning stops when the bell rings....)
Dd is almost 6. She can sound words out but can't blend it together to figure out what the word is. How do I know if this is something that she developmentally is not ready for yet, or if I should be teaching it another way to make it click.
We have been using PP and ETC. Does anyone have any suggestions on anything else I could be doing to help her?
I'll second insect lore. I would wait until spring to buy them (if you are planning on releasing them), as it has to be above a certain temperature to release them.
These 3 books all "spoke" to me. Now comes the hard part of trying to mesh them all together into something that works. Anyone want to volunteer to do that for me?
Does anyone start Latin at such a young age? If so, what program do you use/recommend? She is not such a good reader yet, so would you wait until she has mastered reading before beginning Latin?
TIA
Is it meant to be used alongside other grammar, spelling, and handwriting programs, or is it stand-alone?
Thanks. I know I probably could have searched and found the answer to this, but I am kind of time-crunched at the moment.
We have been using Singapore with my almost 6yo, but she just doesn't get it. I was wondering about MUS, thinking a program with more manipulatives might help. Can anyone share their thoughts on this program with me?
I am considering following this program. We are entering our 2nd year hsing and I recently discovered this book. What are your thoughts on this, or how is it working out for your? Can you describe what you do in a typical day and what materials you might use?
TIA
