  2. I will pray for you and your family. We have one daughter and two sons. We would love to have another child and my daughter wants a sister. We have also been considering adoption. If you need someone to talk to you can PM me. :001_smile:
  3. I use namecheap but I haven't done anything with my site now. I had a few people recommend this company to me.
  4. Hi, This sounds great do you have any advice for the project, the reason I am going to do it in a crazy quilt pattern because the sections of clothes are from different sizes, and some are bigger than others. Is this your first time doing a quilt from baby clothes. Thanks Susan
  5. I would love to plan to meet other homeschool families at the conference. We should plan a time when it gets closer for a place to meet. I am really looking forward to the conference.
  6. I have saved my children's baby clothes to do a quilt for them but have never gotten a chance to get it done. What is the going rate for a crazy quilt design, that is a full or queen size quilt. I might end up doing it my self I just need to get these totes of baby clothes finished. Thanks so much for any suggestions or referrals' any info would be great. :001_smile:
  7. I coupon alot. I use savvydollar.org to match up my coupons and grocery deals, people also post lots of great freebies. Some people use the grocery game but you have to pay for that. I have gotten full size boxes of mash potatoes, batteries and more for free signing up for free deals on websites. I also read Sue Stocks blog she is a local reporter who has coupon deals, and retail deals. I also go to Faye Prossers site she wrote the Smart Spending Resources guide she teaches workshops in NC. I get really goodbuys at Thrift Stores. I always shop end of season sales for next years clothes for my children. One of my friends says that I dress all three of my children for what it cost her for her one child. I resale my children's clothes and toys they have outgrown or don't play with on eBay to pay for their new clothes, and toys. I also sell for other people and for some local business who want to reduce their excess inventory occasionally. We don't go out to eat maybe once or twice a month a most. I have called my Satellite company to cancel and they gave me $300 credit with no contract, I just had to keep their service for three months which more than paid the credit plus three more months of service. This is the one thing my husband won;t budge on he loves his satellite and watching TV once the children go to bed. I moved my cell-phone plan down. I have start to re-evaluate my life and my things, I have donated alot of unnecessary items, and sold some to pay down our debt. We have done the Financial Peace University and we are still working it. Susan:001_smile:
  8. I just registered for the Midwest Homeschool convention in Cincinnati Ohio and was wondering who else was going. We live in NC but thought we would visit the creation Museum while we were in the area, and the Cincinnati Zoo. Does anyone have any tips for the conference. I have been to the NC conference in Winston Salem, but this will be my first time at this conference. Also any suggestions for must see and do in the area. We are going to the Creation Museum and the Zoo so any suggestions for these would be great also:001_smile:. Thanks Susan
  9. We have three children but would love to have more. :001_smile:
  10. We have a Maltese that we got from a lady in the Greensboro area. She is such a lovely, sweet dog. She is almost five pounds. This is a great breed for people with allergies and she is wonderful with kids. You could look into getting a Maltese.
  11. Hi, We live in Louisburg about 45 min. from Raleigh. We have three children Carrington five (almost 6), Jackson four, and Carson 19 months. We are new to homeschooling and would love any homeschool group info or co-ops. We are looking forward to a fun year meeting lots of new people. Susan:001_smile:
  12. :001_smile: I have recently bought a lapbook unit on Charlotte's Web, and was going to use this for my daughter 1st grader and my son who will be doing preschool (he is almost five). I was going to read them the book and incorporate hands on activities. Can you share with me any great units you have done, and what companies you got them from. What types of lapbooks do you think are great for my age groups. I was thinking of making up my own lapbook using the five senses. Have you ever made your own lapbook, and any advice. I want this to be a fun experience.:001_smile:
  13. I have had some good and bad experiences as we will start homeschooling this fall. I have had someone on Ebay list something as brand new and it was written in alot. I didn't in this case file a dispute. I have had someone from an auction on Ebay say they shipped a lot of books. They never provided me with a shipping receipt or any information about shipping they wouldn't answer emails. I finally filed a dispute with pay-pal after no response for a week when I request proof of shipment. I general like to use pay-pal to pay because you can file a dispute and try to get the matter resolved.
  14. Hi, You should request a copy of your credit report (you can request one free copy a year from all three credit bureaus), and make sure it is accurate. If anything is incorrect you can contact the three credit bureaus to make a dispute (Experian, Equifax, and Trans-Union). Always try to pay bills on time, if you can pay any extra money to get your debt down it will raise your credit score. When you are shopping around for a mortgage always tell the banker/mortgage broker you are shopping around for rates. You don't want them to think you are naive. They will treat your better and they will work hard to earn your business.
  15. I had someone tell me my kids were going to miss out on all the fun things school has to offer. That they need interaction with other kids.
  16. Carrington will start 1st grade this fall. I am going to keep her on the same curriculum they did at her school. With maybe a little bit of difference. She seemed to do really well so I decided not to change it up to much. We are doing Abeka- Phonics, and Language Arts, BJU History, and Science, I bought the Cursive Handwriting with out tears 3rd grade (her handwriting is better than mine), I am going to read to them out of the bible and I bought some character building bible curriculum from NCHE conference. I am also going to do a little bit of the First language lessons 1&2 with the cd, I want to do the new BJU Spanish but I don't know for sure ( I bought the Teach Them Spanish) and a sing-along Spanish cd. I got the Abeka art books, but my mom is an art teacher and she came up with so many ideas. We have already done a few canvas drawings that we got from the blank canvas sheets on sale at Michaels. I let each child design it and hang it up so they could take pride in their work. I don't know if we will do ACSI math or Abeka, Carrington's school did ACSI. I have also bought some Lapbook units from In The Hands Of a Child. I got one of Nemo because we are going back to Disney and I thought it would be fun to study the fish and the Aquarium. I got another on Charlotte's Web and one on Narnia. I am going to try to do some experiments from the Organic Puppet Theatre. Carrington likes to scrapbook to so we are going to put together a scrapbook for her. I am going to work with the boys so they each have a scrapbook. Carrington loves to read like me, so we will do reading and journaling. She also does ballet/tap, horseback riding, Awanas, and Soccer. I am going to try to balance everything out and maybe school from 8-12 and someday we will do a few things after lunch. I wan to visit the Museums we have alot of free museums in NC. We want to go to the zoo and the NC aquarium. I want to do alot of hands on things. We are going to start in August. We are also going to the Creation Museum this summer, I want to get some books to read at home. I love their science curriculum for when the kids are older. :001_smile:
  17. My son Jackson is four years old he will be five in January. He was in a Christian preschool in an older threes class and we just loved his teacher. She had a true gift working with children. We had to move him to another preschool because of a problem with the center not watching the kids in afterschool and something bad happen to my daughter while she was in afterschool. He was doing his handwriting and he knows how to spell his name aloud and write it. We left the center in Jan 31, 2009. He moved to a new center. I am taking classes for BA in Elementary Education. Now I am taking classes online. My husband and I decided that it would be best if we homeschool. My daughter goes to a Christian school that is different from the childcare center the have Pre-K-12th grade. I have been working with him more. I am printing worksheets. I have bought handwriting without tears. I am doing workbooks and pintables' mainly now. I planned on starting the HWT's when we start in the fall, along with Abeka. When I get him at the table or his desk. He screams I can't do it. He holds the pencil loosely not evening trying. He just doesn't want to try to do any handwriting. He loves books this morning he picked out nine books to read and we read all of them. He can even tell me what some letters begin with A for apple. What can I do to get him motivated? What else should I be doing. This morning we did one worksheet a fun one with coloring. When he finished the sheet. I said lets practice our letters. He wouldn't even trace on the lines. Then he had a couple on the side to do free hand he did those but very sloppy not trying. I said lets turn the sheet on the back and we can do three more Capital A's and three lower case a's and I drew a line for him to write on. He said no one, I said no three. He said ok two, and said no Jackson three big and little A's. I want him to love learning. I was thinking of do a Letter Book and doing a different letter every day or two and he could color them and trace them. We could also find the different letters and cut out of magazines and make a collage. What do you think? Any suggestions would be great. I am going to work with him over the summer and let my daughter do a few fun worksheets, and we will officially start on August 1. I know this is long but thanks for taking the time. Have a blessed week. Susan
