  1. versions, and I prefer the CLP versions. The CLP Stories of the Pilgrims also has discussion questions in the book (if I remember correctly) The CLP Boys and Girls of Col Days is now "color" and I really think it is cute.
  2. I am so sorry..........all I can offer is that I know God doesn't hate you He loves you!! It is so hard to understand why he allows things to happen sometimes. You are NOT alone, and many people on this board are praying for you I am sure of it! I hope it is okay to PM you. :grouphug: Pamela
  3. a visit to the "roof of the world". I felt bad when I learned it was an endangered species. It was really, really the best meat I have ever eaten.
  4. it was awful! It is considered "good luck" here on New Years, kind of like black eyed peas and ham hocks (or whatever it is my dh family eats then) :)
  5. I would be interested to hear about this as well......
  6. pointing out the supplement that is needed for 7th - 8th. Does anyone know about how many of the book basket books for this level are ** as definately considered worth buying? Is there anyone who has done the WP Catw that could tell me how this program differs, or is a better choice? Thanks
  7. How much does the "book basket" add to the program? I for sure won't be able to purchase many "extra" books, that's for sure, because we are limited by weight as well..... any one else have an opinion out there? thanks
  8. Well, I am driving myself crazy what to do, and I hope someone can help me! I live overseas so I am not able to compare these programs! What is the difference between them? Is one more thorough than the other? At a higher level? I will be letting my 7th grader use this for the most part independantly with me assisting. I had wanted to do MFW R to R but they said we should first do a geography/cultures study.....I guess I need to know the differences between these 2 programs, and which would be more suited for a 7th grader, as far as doing geographical work. (which is more thorough geographically) or is it basically what "type" of program we would prefer? I appreciate any advise.......... Pamela
  9. Hello, I thought I would ask for advise here on the board for this. My son, 6th grade, is working through the R&S 5 English, and we have just reached the lesson on learning to outline.(Lesson 34) Can someone here let me know other things that you have used to find sources to outline from? We live overseas, so I can't get a book, I would need more like some type of passages that are on the internet that we could outline from. Any ideas? I am seeing that we need to practice this skill more than is in the book, just the one lesson. I would appreciate any help with this. Thanks so much Pamela
  10. We won't be in the states until summer. Do they have them at other times? Thanks
  11. I would like to suggest First Language Lessons by SWB. It is such a nice approach to Grammar, gentle, and as the lessons are scripted needs very little (next to none) teacher prep. I am not familiar with the FLL 3, but I think you might be best to start at the beginining (the FLL 1 and 2 in one book) you can always go quickly through it and then go into FLL 3. You would probably want the student workbooks with WWE and FLL to reduce prep work as well....that way it really "lays it all out" for you! Hope that helps
  12. It is a great, great program. You can do it with just the guide, certainly. I wasn't good about the timeline or maps. We did enjoy the available lesson pages, my kids loved those. you will be amazed at all that your kids learn from this program!
  13. Dear Lisa, About the blood types....I am A+, my husband is B-. We live overseas and had to get all of our five children tested for their blood types in case of an emergency. We have FIVE different blood types in our family, including universal donor and universal recipient. Our doctor laughed, said he's never seen anything like it, it is extremely rare to have so many different types, but it is possible! We like to say we are a blood bank in a famiily. Also, both my husband and I are blue eyed. One of our children has greenish-blue eyes. I googled if blue eyed parents could produce brown eyed children, and it is possible. Because the science of genetics is so new, maybe your grandparents or great grandparents (or even further back) could have had these conditions, but you didn't know about it....they don't always show up, even if you have the gene. (One of the reasons I don't ever want to have that type of genetic testing.) Hope it makes you feel a bit better...I am not a scientist by any means, but I do know the blood type thing can happen, just as you have described, based on genetic inheritance. Have a good day, Pamela
  14. We have so, been there done that!! Nothing anyone says surprises me anymore.....my personal favorite, that we get EVERY time we return from someone who doesn't know us, is if we will be taking our kids with us!!! It's one of the things you will have to learn to deal with and accept....family feels like they can (and should) educate you. I just try and ignore it, if at all possible. If you are faithful to keep up with friends and family in the USA while you are gone, it really helps to send little emails about the people you are meeting, what they are like, what their struggles are, etc. We have seen GREAT imporvement in our families since we have done this... It is such a wonderful priveledge to live in another country, and you will REALLY grow, and ifyou are like me, you will find yourself a lot less likely to grumble about things in the US politically for instance. We truly are such a blessed nation, even with all the problems. Pamela
  15. The best one I have seen is the Mayo Clinic's website. http://www.mayoclinic.com There is also a great website that is done by an organization in California http://www.caregiver.org and then search for dementia Hope that helps Pamela
  16. I have used all 3, so I will take a stab at this! Pathway are different from R & S in that they are stories centered around life on the farm, for example. R & S are centered around Bible stories. I would say you could use both, with very good effect. They compliment each other, as they are different type of stories, which keeps the interest high. Ireally like all the Bible knowledge my children have after reading the R & S books. McGuffey are nice, maybe an extra if you have the $, but their tone is more old fashioned, which doesn't suit everyone. They are great for vocabulary development, etc. I hope this helps, I am by no means an expert, but thought I would try and answer your ?s. Pamela
