  1. Hi everyone! I've missed being on the board these last few weeks, and especially this thread. :) I've got a lot of catching up to do. I'm still kinda in my reading slump, but do to Thanksgiving travel, I have finished a book. We listened to The School for Good and Evil. I enjoyed it, and now I'm waiting for the next book right along with my dd10. LOL Also, we were able to start listening to The Hero's Guide to Saving Your Kingdom. It has been a hoot! I look forward to getting the next one. I saw Betrayal of Trust by J. A. Jance on sale in the Kindle store, so I decided to give it a try. Has anyone ever read anything by Jance before?
  2. We have. There is a local station on the radio that starts playing Christmas music in November, so I switch to them and listen till the day after Christmas. I love Christmas songs. :D
  3. I planned on moving my dd10 into FF when we finish LC1, but it feels like we are never going to finish LC. I cannot seem to get the lessons in. :( Hearing that FF is hard, doesn't give me much hope that Latin will stay in our studies much longer.
  4. This looks great, and my library has it! Yay! I read The Maltese Falcon in middle school. I need to read it again, as I don't really remember anything about it except what the book looked like. I need to add it and The Thin Man to my Goodreads list, too. Thank you to the both of you for reminding ME. LOL This looks interesting, thanks for sharing it. My dd8 is dyslexic, and I'd be interested in reading his take on it.
  5. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: Robin. I hope your mom is continuing to do well. I read a couple of pages of a few books last week, but nothing really grabbed my attention. I have downloaded a couple of things from the library onto my Kindle that I'm going give a try this week. Thanks for the suggestions last week to help me get over my reading slump! I'm going to give some of those a try, too. :)
  6. I use both to mean the evening meal, but mostly call it dinner. When the girls and I were listening to the Little House books, lunch was always called dinner, and the girls would get so confused as to what time of day it was in the books. From what I understand, historically, dinner was what most people now call lunch, and supper was the evening meal.
  7. Oooh!! I didn't know the new series was out yet. Can't wait for it to hit Netflix!
  8. I'll be your friend! Also, there are lots of us on the Book-a-Week thread that are on Goodreads. Stop by and share what you're reading there, too. I have found so many books that I would never know existed if I wasn't reading that thread. :)
  9. Well, let's see. There is the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon, The Chesepeake Bay Saga by Nora Roberts, Wanderlust by Danielle Steel (the only one of her's that I really like, actually). These I have read more than twice. Some that I might like to reread are The Dragonriders of Pern (Anne McCaffrey), Magic Kingdom For Sale, Sold! (Terry Brooks), The Shop on Blossom Street (Debbie Macomber), Inkheart (Cornelia Funke), and some of the Malory books of Johanna Lindsey. Perhaps some Dean Koontz or Sidney Sheldon. I just don't know what I'm in the mood for at the moment.
  10. I saw this and put it on my TBR list. I look forward to hearing how you liked it. I'll put Attachments on the list, too. Still in my reading funk. I'm surrounded by tons of books, a TBR list 50 years long, and I can't find anything I want to read. Humph.
  11. Oh, Robin, I'm so sorry to hear this. Much love and prayers for you and your family.
  12. I decided that I just didn't care enough about the library books on my Kindle, so I went ahead and turned the wi-fi back on. Now I have all the new stuff downloaded. And I'm not in the mood to read. :(
  13. Since I was able to put aside The Scottish Prisoner, ahem, I was able to complete Dead Lawyers Tale No Tales, by Randy Singer. This is not one of his best, but it was still enjoyable if you like courtroom dramas/mystery thrillers. Here is my review from Goodreads: This one had me guessing till the end, and even surprised me. There seemed to be so many different story lines going at once, I had no idea how they were going to be able to come together. It wasn't really a matter of knowing the who in the "who done it", but more the HOW, and that was a good mystery till the end. A small side-note surprise at the end was nice as well, and I never saw it coming. All in all a fun read. My next book will be The Last Plea Bargain, also by Randy Singer.
  14. The poor man is delusional, and in sore need of the psychiatric care that he denies is real/needed.
  15. Kareni, here is another published fanfic that I found. Wallbanger, by Alice Clayton. Do/did you read a lot of fanfic? I used to, but I don't anymore. I remember there being some really good stories being written, as well as some really REALLY bad ones. LOL
  16. I really enjoyed The Night Circus, and I love Water for Elephants. I remember staying up all night reading Water for Elephants. I was at the end of the book around 5 in the morning, at the foot of my bed, on my knees, bouncing up and down, cheering Jacob on, and trying not to wake up my dh. I haven't read the other books, so my TBR pile grows ever larger. Any particular reason why you think won't read The Night Circus?
  17. Here's an interesting little blogpost about bestsellers that got their start during NaNoWriMo. I had no idea some of these started out that way. :)
  18. Saw this on fb, and thought of you, Stacia. :) [edited to remove picture]
  19. :o :o :o So, I was going through my Kindle library on Amazon, and noticed something. I OWN The Scottish Prisoner! LOL I don't have to read it now, as it is not a library book. :smilielol5: This means, of course, that I can move on to something I'm more interested in right now. Yay! Unfortunately, my illustrated copy of The Princess Bride (it's beautiful!!), was delivered today, too, and I don't know what I want to read first. I think I am going to try and stay with cleaning out my Kindle, and then read The Princess Bride. Maybe. I will read Dead Lawyers Tell No Tales, by Randy Singer on my Kindle. Just the title is exciting to me. :D
