  1. My dad randomly breaks out in Inigo's speech. For no reason. My mother begged the video store to sell her one of their copies for me. They did, and I still have it all these years later. :) I have that VHS, and two DVDs (one from when it first came out on DVD, and the 20th anniversary DVD).
  2. "I fear I'll never see you again." "Of course you will." "But what if something happens to you?" "Hear this now. I will always come for you." "But how can you be sure?" "This is true love. Think this happens everyday?" Favorite movie EVER. I know every line, and no one will watch it with me anymore because I cannot stop saying them along with the movie.
  3. :hurray: Welcome! That's what I was going to say! LOL Well, except for the cupcakes comment. :D I took my mother and dds to see it this summer at the Alabama Theater. It isn't as grand as the Fox, but same vibe. It was a lot of fun being there with other fans. On a side note, my senior year in highschool I got to see Phantom of the Opera at the Fox. LOVED it, and the Fox is just beautiful! There is one curse word (Idigo calls the Six Fingered Man a son-of-a-b ) This is towards the very end of the movie. The grandson uses Jesus' name as an expletave once I think there are only two somewhat scary scenes. One being the screaming eels scene (which I think the grandfather diffuses nicely), and the other in the Pit of Despair, when The Man in Black becomes "mostly dead". He screams loudly for an extended period of time, and writhes around on the table he is tied to. There is one scene where someone gets stabbed with a sword a few times, but there isn't a bunch of blood and guts. His shirt gets stained red where he is punctured. If you are concerned about how your dc will handle it, you can always prescreen it. I think you will find it a great family movie, but you know your kids and how they take certain things. I hope you watch it and enjoy it!
  4. I grew up in church, and have attended many Bible studies, but I am like you in that I didn't seem to retain much. A few years ago, I learned about dispensational study, and the Bible has come alive for me. I am understanding things that I have heard all my life in a new and vibrant way, and it makes me excited to get in the Word. A lot of things that never made any sense to me now are easily understood. I love it!
  5. We had this same problem with my dd8. I took her to the doctor, and he had her x-rayed. She had a impacted bowl, and wasn't going all the way when she went to the potty. We had to put her on miralax every day for a long time to help retrain her to go to the potty. The doctor said this happens often, and that while potty training, she must have had a bowl movement that hurt, and decided she wasn't going to go through that again, so started holding it. This caused the back up, and then the "leaks" started. She is much better now, and doesn't have accidents anymore. There is hope!
  6. Unfortunately, our tv doesn't pick up ABC. :( For most of what I watch, I have to wait for it to come on netflix, or buy the show. I see it's on netflix now, so I can start watching. Yay! :)
  7. Maybe I should start watching the show... *sigh*
  8. Hart's War. I think that's the name of it. I was very pregnant with dd10 at the time, and I really didn't want to see it in the first place. Unfortunately, we were with my bil and sil, and everyone but me wanted to see it. When it got to a part where it showed some women in a village brutally mutilated (b00ks cut off), I walked out crying and never went back in. There is one more that my dh and I walked out of and got a refund for, but I can't remember what it was.
  9. This reminds me a little of a fanfic called The Red Line. The man works at a male strip club, and the woman hires him for a week to "study" him for a research paper she's doing to be a psychologist. I share a card with my mother-in-law... :svengo: Can you imagine???? :smilielol5: OK, I don't know who Emerson or Thoreau is, but I want to be able to talk about books like y'all! *whines* Seriously, though, for someone just learning about their works, what would you (or who ever would like to help me get educated :tongue_smilie:), suggest to be the best place to start? Awesome sauce. Here are some literary drinks to go along with that. :D
  10. Ah. That explains why my antivirus software has blocked them. I didn't know what they were, as there is an empty little box in their place.
  11. Has anyone else's antivirus software been going crazy when they get on this page of the thread? Every time I come on to read the new postings, it comes up, and says it has blocked malware.
  12. I would love to join, but I don't know if I have a story to tell. I used to write all the time when I was a kid, but I haven't written a thing as an adult.
  13. Thanks to the author of this list, I don't have to read any of those books. :D Some of the comments at the bottom were funny, and just what I was thinking. I agree! And, I'll join in that hug. :grouphug:
  14. I LOVE the Great Outdoors! That is the funniest movie. I completely agree that you have to remember it is 1988 PG, LOL. I remember watching it with my parents and grandmother. My grandmother laughed so hard, she fell of the couch! Another time, it came on tv, so all the bad words were changed. We laughed harder at the changes than at the funny parts of the movie. I'll never forget the scene where everyone is in the livingroom fighting, and someone tells another to blow it out their a**, but the voice over said "kazoo". Then, there was a bunch of "blow it out your kazoo!" Oh man, it was so funny. Personally, I can't stand profanity, especially the f-word. There are lots of words that society has deemed inappropriate, and I wish that one would go back on the list. But, that's just me. :)
  15. Well, it isn't medieval, but it is Danse Macabre. :D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vd8gJw5sAqw
  16. Welcome home! It's so nice to be away, but it's so great to be home. :D That's how we "read" The Swiss Family Robinson this year, too. Although, I got our copy from the library, and not Librivox (I'll have to look it up). Did you ever find yourself wondering how in the world all the animals and plants were on that island? At times I just had to laugh at the far fetched-ness of some of it. We enjoyed it very much, though.
  17. You did it, Stacia! :hurray: LOL Love the review. :D
  18. Extra busy and tired must be going around, as I have suffered the same myself this week. :D I've been working on The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova. I've made it to chapter 18, and it has gotten to a point where I want to tell the girls it's break week! so I can just sit and read straight through. LOL I'm really enjoying it so far. I'm also glad that I read Dracula before reading this, as it has added to the atmosphere of the story for me. :thumbup1: On a side note, we were at the book store last week, and my dd10 begged me for a book. My expression: :w00t: This book is what I would consider a "real" book. Not a first chapter book, or a comic book-like book (think Geronimo Stilton), but an honest, 400-odd page BOOK. I was sooo excited! LOL She devoured a good 3/4 of the book in about three days, and then started reading it really slowly. I asked her what was wrong, and she said, "Nothing, I just don't want it to be over yet." She finished it this morning, and was very sad it was over. We got on Good Reads and looked for similar books to try. I thought this child would never read anything but Geronimo Stilton, but maybe she is ready to break out and try some new things! Her book: [edited to remove picture] There is a second one coming out, but she has to wait till April next year. She was quite put out, and I told her, "Welcome to my world!"
  19. Scored a copy of The Geography of Bliss at the thrift store today. I remember it being talked about, but don't remember if it was liked. I thought I might like it, since I enjoyed Getting Stoned with Savages earlier this year.
