  1. :iagree: I have bookmarked this one for next year, but would like one for this coming year!
  2. I tried to use the lesson plan sheet that the school gave us, but it just didn't work for me. I took their idea and tweaked it to my style. I have seen some other posters that have done like me: days across the top, subjects down the side. I am going to check out Donna's site, though, and see if I like her forms better!:001_smile:
  3. Thanks for the link! My dds love to read magic school bus, and now can watch, too!
  4. I'm excited to see what people have to say about this. I am having somewhat of the same problem with my younger dd. With her, it is like one step forward and 3 steps back. Granted, she won't be 4 until June, so I know it is still early for her. She can recognize beginning sounds (YEA!), but is struggling to blend. We are finishing up MFW K, and have loved it. My olders dd (5, will be 6 this month), did not get much from the reading part of it. She learned to read mostly on her own, and it turned into more of a review. Mostly, she didn't like the reading part. When I found WTM and OPGTTR, we started on that, and she is doing much better with reading. Younger dd has learned her letter sounds and to recognize beginning and ending sounds with MFW K. Learning the letter sounds with MFW K is a bit more fun than OPGTTR. I plan to go back through some of the activities and games again with my younger. Sorry for going on and on! Oh, and don't worry about feeling lost about homeschooling. This was our first year, and now that it is under my belt, I feel much more comfortable. I think that MFW K is a wonderful place to get your feet wet. You have enough structure that you don't have to add anything to it, but not so much, that you can't if you want to.
  5. If anyone has a TM for MFW 1st Grade that they would like to sell, please e-mail me. mlbuchina@yahoo.com Thank you!:D
  6. Thank you, everyone, for your thoughts and insights. It has really helped me out a lot. I will have to check on some of the curriculum choices, and plan on finding the LifePac a new home.
  7. I am planning on using Alpha Omega's LifePac Bible 1 for my 1st grader next year. But when I got it, it looked a little on the "light" side for 1st grade. More like ps or k. Has anyone else used this with their 1st and was it good? What curriculum have you used? Thanks!
  8. Thanks everyone for posting!:D I love all those names. This really helps get the creative juices flowing.
  9. This coming school year will be our first time with WTM. I am so glad I have it, though! It fits my teaching style, but has plenty of freedom for me to work the curricula to my children's learning styles. It has truly been a God-send for me. I am using most of what she recommends, so I will have to wait to see if I have to switch. We finished math for K early, so we went ahead and started 1st math with Saxon. So far, this has been great for us. I'm even able to use a lot of it with my almost 4 yr old. I hope we have as much success with the rest of the curriculum choices.:)
  10. I have been trying to come up with a name for our "school", and I seem to have writer's block. How did you come up with your school names? I thought it might be fun to hear other's ideas. I have seen some really neat names on this forum. Thanks!
  11. We are going to use Alpha Omega's LIFEPAC for 1st grade Bible. It comes with 10 little workbooks to use through the year and a teacher's manual/guide. I like it because it also has hands on learning activities to do, and my dd5 is a very hands on learner right now. Also, my dd3 will be able to do it along with us. You can see more about it at: http://www.aophomeschooling.com/lifepac/grade-1/bible Hope that helps!:D
  12. I am probably stressing about this way more than I should, but I am not sure how to do reading. I have read the section in WTM about reading in 1st-4th, but I can't wrap my head around it. Book selections are a problem, and when to fit them in. Are we supposed to read selections from the Ancients any time, or only when we get to that time period in the history? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Again, I am sure I am stressing about it way too much, and once we get into the new school year it will come together. At least, I hope!
  13. Thank you, everyone! Your thoughts and ideas are very encouraging. I'm so glad I found this board!:001_smile:
  14. Hello I have a K5 and PreK3. We are using MFWAtoZ for K (and PreK, I just do her level), and will be finished at the end of May. I found WTM, and LOVE it. We will be starting 1st grade after a short break (I plan on schooling year round), but was wondering how to include my PreK. I was wondering if anyone had started with WTM with a K and then began including their siblings as they went along. I am not sure how to do K with her and then 1st, when we will have already done it with big sis. Plus, big sis will be in 3rd by that time, and not on Ancients anymore. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated! Oh, and by the time we start 1st, one will be six, and shortly after the other will turn four. I would just try to find things to keep her busy, but she wants to do what big sis does, and gets upset if I don't have her any "school" work to do.
