  1. That's the recipe I ended up using. I was informed by my crew that it was a keeper and should be added to the family recipes. Thank you all!
  2. My recipes call for sour cream or, *gasp*, creamed corn. I need a bare bones recipe that isn't dry.
  3. We're having chili at the in-laws. The bread needs to travel. Need ideas for a low-resource version. Help!!
  4. My sister is named Jenny. I remember being in Sunday school and having my little sister come bursting into my sixth grade room after hearing her scream "You're wrong!" at her teacher. She dragged me through the curtains to her room. The teacher insisted that Jenny was short for Jennifer and spelled her name "Jennie". The teacher told me I didn't know what I was talking about. I left my sister with my teacher and went to get my mom. She was mad and said a few choice words to the teacher for making her daghter cry and causing her to leave her class unattended. That teacher was also a teacher's aide in our school and never argued with my sister or anyone else about their name. People mostly misspell my name or telemarketers pronounce "ei" with an "a" sound.
  5. For texts where it isn't broken down, I start with the number of chapters and mentally dividede that across roughly 40 weeks as we go year-round. Then I break those sections into even bits across the number of days we are doing that subject. For example: we are using The Patriot's Guide to American History. It is roughly 20 chapters. We will be breaking it up into logical bites that spread each chapter across two weeks. Hope that helps!
  6. Our move, if and when, would be about 600 miles. One and done would be best.
  7. Wondering if a Uhaul truck would be worth it. I think moving the books would be the hardest of the non-furniture to move.
  8. I am not currently in a position financially to move but I've noticed that many of you have moved recently. If you're willing to share, I'm curious as to the current costs of moving. We've lived in the same place since 2000 so I'm rusty.
  9. UPDATE: Ze box! She came! Mr. Picky Pants was handed a crayon. He proceeded to decorate the old dry erase board and then moved on to the tray on his desk!! Dragon was happy to get the invisible pen he wanted. Fury looked at the anatomy coloring book and seemed a little shocked that a coloring book could be so thick but was otherwise unimpressed. Teenagers . . . *sigh* I have my school year set so I am happy!!
  10. No. Not yet. Called yesterday. They didn't yet have a number for me. They said they should have a tracking number for me today. If it's not here by 9:30 then I will be calling. I have to wait until then because we're an hour ahead of them. Dragon wants me to wait to open the box until he gets home from his haircut if it comes while he's gone.:lol: His face was so serious. I think he forgets how impatient his mama can be.:lol:
  11. I feel like a broken record but I'll say it again and agree with some of the previous posters. Keep K simple. I have boys. Simple is better. Reading, writing, and early numbers rule the day here. Once your dc's are reading fluently, let them read science and history books on a delight-driven basis. You have 12 more years to structure their days. Kinder days should only take an hour if that.
  12. Oats? In a rice cooker?? I wonder if my little Rival will do that?
  13. Lucky you! I have to wait until Thursday. Do you have a 2-way glue pen? The ones where if you let it sit, it turns into a sort of post-it note. That might help.
  14. I'm not sure about the biscuits. I have to say when my youngest was brand new, I loved anything handheld. Very handy for midnight feedings when your starving and little one insists on being held.
  15. I can't remember exactly what the cookies were called but I remember my mom used to tell me about them. They were really good hot out of the oven. Once they cooled, however, you had to wait 4-6 weeks to eat them. Maybe if you could find a recipe for something like that, it would be a yummy treat?
  16. Do any of you use public domain books for your self education goals? Do you have any favorites? Thanks for sharing!
  17. UPDATE: I just called to see if I could get a tracking number and there's an anatomy coloring book on back order. She said it will ship Tuesday at the latest and arrive here Thursday latest. Pray and send positive thoughts that it arrives in their warehouse sooner.
  18. I ordered over the phone but didn't get any order number.
  19. We shall have to keep each other posted, then? Shall we do that? Oh yes let's!! (Watched Lion King 1.5 a few too many times, I think)
