  1. I think the whole "assuming it has been tested and shown safe and effective" part is implicit. Assuming other wise seems like an intentional , willfully created straw man.
  2. Except you would have the choice to be vaccinate or mask. And we’ve all been doing delivery/take out/shopping while masked all the time. All of the “vaccine passport” programs also allow for a negative test within 48-72 hours too. Lots of options. Only NYC and cruise ships are even talking about using those anyway.
  3. My moderna was 4 weeks. My sons Pfizer was 3. I’ve never heard of doing 2.
  4. This was a good read… Two scientific findings altered the calculus: Vaccinated people rarely transmit the virus, and the shots are effective against variants. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/05/14/health/cdc-masks-vaccines-variants.html
  5. I could definitely build up a case for that matching the criteria. Especially right now. I text the doctors office when we arrive. I use apps to buy food. Use apps for grocery pick up. But can one “accidentally” take the mark of the beast? Be a good Christian, tithing, feeding the hungry and oops, no heaven for you because you got a REAL ID to fly?
  6. Wait…I missed that part. So that study is showing tvst half of kids *hospitalized* with Covid get long COVID? The number of kids sick enough to be hospitalized is tiny. I wish I could find numbers with a better sample.
  7. They probably jumped the gun, the CDC says its coming out with additional guidance for schools and camps later. I'm guessing that district isn't likely to change back if the CDC recommends masking in schools.
  8. I know my governor dropped our mask mandate but specifically kept the it for schools. Some states dropped their mask requirements months ago though. Arkansas dropped theirs in March.
  9. There are some churches that are so excited for the apocalypse that they spend all their time actively looking for it and trying to force its coming. Pretty much every new technology is the new "mark" for awhile. Social Security cards, Real ID. Anything connected to commerce because I guess during the end times you can't buy things without the mark. So right now if you can't shop without mask unless you are vaccinated, they see that as fulfilling that requirement.
  10. Me too. I've thinking about it since the 12+ vaccine was approved. Until this thread I haven't seen any numbers at all on long covid in kids. The best study that I've seen in this thread is for less 200 kids which is so tiny as to be almost meaningless. I can find numbers on COVID hospitalizations, by age, less than 3000.
  11. Virginia is doing the same thing. The mandate was dropped effective at midnight last night, except on public transportation, medical facilities and schools. WalMart and Costco announced they won't require masks as of today, Kroger and a few other say they are. It was all quite sudden. Last week the complaints was that the CDC was still saying we should mask outdoors and now just poof, nothing.
  12. Don't they get tired of everything being the mark of the beast? Social Security numbers, bar codes, debit cards, Apple Wallet, PayPal, now this vaccine. Sorry, off topic. I'm just tired of that particular line of thinking.
  13. A little late to the party, but I’m using Bookshark with my 7th grader. It does 2 SOTW books in a year mixed with readers and read alouds. It’s not super rigorous but it’s getting done easily. You could look at the website just for some ideas on how it’s structured.
  14. Do you have a different study for that? I've been looking for long COVID data on kids, but this study you linked to was for over 18 only. "Inclusion criteria: Age >=18 yrs".
  15. I'd love to see reporting to the contrary. There is plenty showing that COVID vaccine hesitancy is strongly correlated with being republican. https://thehill.com/homenews/sunday-talk-shows/544206-arkansas-gov-vaccine-hesitance-among-trump-voters-is-natural program, Bash noted that half of Trump supporters have said they do not plan on getting a coronavirus vaccine. https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/why-41-percent-of-republicans-dont-plan-to-get-the-covid-vaccine https://www.businessinsider.com/white-republicans-more-likely-to-reject-covid-19-vaccine-2021-3 https://news.northeastern.edu/2020/09/15/trust-in-covid-19-vaccines-aligns-with-political-parties-new-national-study-finds/
  16. One of the things they are testing in the under 12s is dose strength. It’s one reason why that study is taking so long.
  17. Is that the same area where Ebola crops up? The rural people in the area of Ebola seem terrified of western medicine in general.
  18. I have literally never heard that. It’s a contract and patent law issue. Do you have a link showing that?
  19. I tend to agree. I understand all of the reason for why we aren’t/can’t, but vaccinating low risk 12-30 year old here while people die in droves in India is a planetary moral failing. But there is no over arching body to redirect things in the wisest, most efficient way.
  20. I’ve always felt skeptical about the “almost no transmission at school” thing. The schools are soooo certain that all of their cases are coming from elsewhere and it’s always felt not terribly plausible.
  21. On the bright side some amount of those people who are unvaccinated have likely had COVID and recovered and should have natural immunity for awhile. And people are still getting vaccinated every day.
  22. My governor just announced ending the state mask mandate. He is leaving the mandate on k-12 schools though because the students aren’t vaccinated. So there is some nuance in how the new recommendation will be implemented. I’ll be curious to see what big box stores do. Walmart, Lowe’s and Dollar Tree are the only indoors places my kids go most of the time. I plan to continue to mask in those places.
  23. This made me think about Mono because it usually lasts around 6 weeks, right?. There 3 million cases a year of Mono and I’ve never felt compelled specifically to prevent my kids from getting it. Now I’m wondering if that was rational and how I should think about COVID risk for my kids in light of that, in regards to being worried about masking/not masking. (I already said we’ll keep masking in stores and doctors offices for now, just thinking about my level of upset or concern. It’s subjective so I know others will feel different. I’m just doing my own calculations “out loud”. )
  24. I feel like everything they are doing for indoors would be perfectly appropriate for Sept. I think it’s a bit premature. I think the outdoor stuff is way overdue.
