  1. Thanks for linking this. It could be the ticket for us this year!
  2. Surely the Hive will know. I'm looking for a 5-subject spiral notebook (3-subject will do) with a hard back. The kind that you can write in on your lap, for example, without needing to find a clipboard or book or other hard surface to lean on. I looked briefly at Target today but didn't find such a thing. There are plenty of notebooks, of course, but that stiff back cover eludes me. Does anyone know of a brand or a store where I can find such a thing? Thanks.
  3. Quill, if you're seeing this woman only through FB, it's possible she looks amazing because of photo apps. I have this free app on my phone that removes my dark circles, lifts my eyes, whitens my teeth, clears my skin, lengthens my lashes, AND applies eye shadow in a way I've never been able to master. (I've never actually posted such pics of myself, but it's fun to play with.)
  4. Sparkly, I won't be posting our final list 😉.
  5. Dh and I will be celebrating 20 years next year and we're trying to come up with 20 things to do before then--things we've always said we'd like to try but, for whatever reason, we never got around to doing. We're calling it our 20 for 20 Challenge. Our (short) list so far includes things like take a history tour of our town, visit a winery that we drive by a few times a year, take a cooking class, try paddle boarding (we actually did that last week so it won't count, but it's part of what got us thinking about this challenge), eat at that swanky restaurant that we hear fantastic raves about but never want to get dressed up for on the rare occasion we do go out...we're aiming for mostly local and fairly inexpensive ideas. So, what would be on your list?
  6. I was so excited to learn of the CFO position with XYZ. Talking with Angie and Mark, I understand that this position will require someone with financial acumen, a detailed mindset, and an overall bent toward process improvements. Given my background and career goals, this sounds like a perfect opportunity for me to contribute value to XYZ while using my strengths. (Edit as necessary.) Agreeing with the others that the goal here is not to showcase how you aren't qualified but, rather, how you are. I realize there may be some truth to the former, but if they're already willing to talk to you, they're not too concerned about the potential gaps. Truthfully, anyone would need to be trained in some way. There is significant value in hiring someone who already "gets" the area and the organization. And, yes, cover letters are still a thing. Sometimes a simple email message takes the place of a formal cover letter (which may be the case in your situation since you've already discussed sending your resume), but some kind of introduction still needs to accompany the resume. 7. Brainstorm with me. If you had to work a retail job (for the flexible night/weekend hours primarily) for at least a year or so (but not as a long-term career), where would you consider applying?
  8. I think the fact that it's such a small issue to the OP is the point. It's a minor issue to her, but the camp chose to make it a major issue (as I understand it), thus potentially confusing the children and creating division where it isn't necessary.
  9. Sounds like Greenville, SC, to me.
  10. I could reschedule but it's hard to know when the tenderness will flare up. Plus, I really want to get it over with. They've been monitoring a spot for a while and an "all clear" would be a nice way to start our vacation next week.
  11. I have a follow-up mammogram scheduled this week. I also have (cyclically related) breast tenderness. It's not terrible, but the thought of being handled and squished and mashed about is giving me a slight bit of anxiety. (I've had several mammograms so I know generally what I'm in for.) Besides ibuprofen before the appointment (or rescheduling), is there anything I can do to lessen the pain?
  12. What texts do they use? I am looking at some of the resources I have on tap for next year, but many of them won't lend themselves well to outlining (I don't think). Would Story of the World work well for this? (A friend has my set now so I can't evaluate it.) Thanks.
  13. Do you have any administrative skills? Typing? Software expertise? If not, maybe check out your local community college or government employment office to see about classes to develop those skills. From there, you'd have something to list on your resume and a possible foot in the door for higher level positions.
  14. Another plug for the Read Aloud Revival podcasts here. I've been enjoying them on my walks the past few weeks, and I always come away with a little nugget of encouragement (or another book title to add to the list :)).
  15. No guide. We'll be on our own. Dh and my two boys have no fear of this. (And if I let them see the options on the website, they will all quickly start lobbying for the higher rapids.) I've been watching videos on the site, too. I think I'll be okay. I hope.
  16. "This route includes a moderately challenging Class II rapid," how scared should I be? We've all been lake kayaking, but this "rapid" thing will be a first for me. All I can think about is that disturbing movie with Kevin Bacon and Meryl Streep.
  17. Real-life example Sign on the movie theater door: Please do not bring food or drinks into the theater. Okay. I get that. They want me to pay (their disgustingly inflated prices) for a bottle of water. But when I get to the counter, I am told that they are out of bottled water. At this point, do I ignore the sign and grab my water from the car? Yes. Yes I do.
  18. I can't remember the last time I ordered pizza for delivery. What's the acceptable/expected tip for a $28 order?
