  1. We are currently using TT4 My dd loves it. And so do I:) There is a lesson presented then some questions that go along w/lesson. Then there is a problem set that practices new and older concepts. There is also a bonus section that has drills after every 5 or so lessons. They get bonus points for answering so many correct in the time allowed. DD loves this part and is always excited about getting the extra ponts. I love the fact that it is all done for me and all I have to do is check her progress. There is also a workbook w/ the program that contains all the same info on the cd-roms which comes in handy if you have to do math on the go. Jenny
  2. Submission is not one of my strong suits. So take what I say with a grain of salt if you want to. I try very hard to be obedient but I have a strong will and I was a single mom for several years. It has been very hard for me to give up my role as head of the household. :tongue_smilie:
  3. Just a thought. Has your dd had this antibodic before? Is it a penicillin based antibodic? Only reason I am asking is because my dd started getting a rash after an antibodic. We took her back to the dr to have him check and sure enough she was having an allergic reaction to penicillin. She had the same antibodic several times before with no reaction. I hope that is not the case with your dd, but just wanted to pass on my 2 cents. Jenny
  4. Can this be adapted for a 5th grader? I will have a 5th, 3rd, and 1st grader next year and would like to keep them all together in their history curric. Are the student sheets and tests too easy for 5th grader? I will say dd is a little behind more like 4/5th level by next year. TIA Jenny I figured I might get more answers here.

  6. Same here! But we have had some health issues(athsma, surgery, nicu) and several pregnancies (one which was twins) over the past 10 years. Plus our indiv and family deduction are pretty low. On the other hand we pay almost $90 week for ins through dh work. :tongue_smilie:
  7. I am trying to give myself the classical education that I never had, but am struggling with Ancient literature. Since my children are still young I do not have anyone IRL to discuss them with. Does anyone know of a forum for discussing ancient literature? I would prefer something free. I would also like some kind of history and lit curriculum/guide such as history oddyssey, MFW, that I could do independently that does not cost much. Any suggestions?? For writing is there an online forum for that too. Where someone would look at my writing and critique it? TIA Jenny
  8. I am wondering what things you would consider winter staple clothes today? I have lost about 15lbs and have to go shopping:D I am in my late 30s and don't want to look too young KWIM. I am little a size 4-6 petite. So finding clothes that are too young looking is kind of a problem. I do like some of the new fashions but I am not sure what to buy. I have been wearing jeans and fitted tee which is fine for now but in the winter average temp is around 25-30 degrees. I have not updated my look in years because I have been too busy having babies, but I am done now and don't mind spending a little more for clothes KWIM. I do have a nice wool coat(peacoat style) and 2 pairs of boots. One for dresses and one for jeans and of course my new balance shoes. Thanks for any advice. Jenny
  9. I have been having some of the same issues here and realized that if I was to put my dc in PS they would all be a grade behind at least.:glare: So what I decided to do was re-evaluate what I was using for school. I switched some curriculum which was teacher intensive to something they could do somewhat by themselves or with little help from me. Some of the things I started using were audio cds for history and read alouds. Computer programs such as teaching textbooks or SOS for math. I even bought hooked on phonics, the new ones have dvds to introduce phonics skills. And I use MUS which also use dvds. Also I am doing ETC with my youngers which are pretty easy to teach. It wasn't easy because money is tight, but I had to do something else. I hated to switch curriculum but I also had to be realistic about how much one on one time I had available also. Hang in there:grouphug: I am sure your dc children are learning real life skills that would never get in PS. Not to mention growing closer as a family which is priceless. Jenny
  10. For those that are able to get your dc to work independently help me. I would like dds 4th and 2nd to do somethings without me having to stand over top of them. So how do you do it? Do you give the children a checklist or do you they just look at the main planner(I use 1 planner for all 3dc) and pick what they could do by themselves? Do you give them a time limit for certain subjects they can do independently? Do they have consequences when they don't complete assignments on time? With 2.5 yo twins and Ker I am running out of time in the day to get it all done. So if the girls just do somethings without me it would be a big help. Thanks Jenny
  11. Maybe you should mention to her that if she went into labor over the weekend the DR might keep her in the hospital on bed rest. Then she really would have no choice. My last babies were born at 36weeks and 6days(almost full term for twins) and they still had to stay in NICU for 11 days. I can certainly understand how hard it is in the last month of pregnancy, but I can not understand putting my own feelings above the safety of my childs. I know in some of my pregnancies I was dilitated 4 cm for about 3 weeks before the baby actually came. We will pray that God does not allow her to have the baby before it is ready. Let's face it is very hard to make yourself go into labor even when the baby is overdue.:tongue_smilie: Just as an encouragement both of my first 2 babies I went into preterm labor at 26 and 30 weeks. They were both born full term and I was 17yo and 20 yo and did not listen to the DR either about bedrest. Jenny
  12. Thank you, thank you!! This viseo was a huge help to me. I was about to ditch the dictaion exercises all together. My dd can not seem to keep the sentences in her head either. She is using WWE 3 also. The other thing I do is let her read it to herself 3 times, because she is a visual child. KWIM Thanks again Jenny
  13. All of your comments are great. I never thought of my thyroid, but I should have my brother and gmother both have problems with them. And after speaking with my mom she said my df and db have been on anti depression meds for several yrs now. :001_huh: Jenny
  14. Personally I believe the socialization that children get in PS is not realistic. Really when else in real life are you only exposed to people that are only your age and that live in your neighborhood. :glare: My children are exposed to children of different ages and adults from all over the world just at our church let alone the homeschooling activities. I believe that prepares them for the real world better than PS. Just my 2 cents Jenny
  15. I have a DR appt next week and would like to know what you all think. So I can make sure to ask the right questions and get the right blood tests done. KWIM:glare: I do not go to the DR that often and would rather not make 5 trips to figure out what is going on with me. So here is my symtoms tell me what you think. Muscle spasms, pain in joints, mild depression, mood swings(really bad), insomnia at least 3 days a month, trouble concentrating, fatigue, painful ovulation, and my periods are not as regular, and very painful. A little background, I have been pregnant 7 times, and have had 8 babies(youngest twins 2.5yo). I am 36yo and am married. My life is a little stressful 5 dc at home and we are poor. Also, I have a fibriod tumor and had a major car accident that broke my femur and foot 21 yrs ago. I do take womans vitamins and BONEhealth (eggshell calcium w/Magnesium and vitD3) most days. TIA Jenny
  16. Has anyone used this for phonics instruction? I am looking at the new one which has the dvds not just audio. Has it worked for anyone? I am looking to simplify some subjects and am wondering if this will work for dd7 and ds6. They both have learned alot from the Leapfrog dvds so was wondering if HOP might work. For anyone who has used it What does a lesson look like in your homeschool? Is there alot of writing? Is there alot of busy work? Have your dc actually learned to read with this program? TIA Jenny
  17. Do you have to buy for more than one student or could my 6yo and 7yo both use it for the cost of one?
  18. Thanks for clarifying for me I am still new to this stuff. I still have a boom box with cassette players so I have no idea what I am doing:001_smile: I should have asked my friends with teenagers, but I figured I could find all the info out here just as easily. Thanks again Jenny
  19. Due to some health issues I am having a hard time getting everything accomplished. I love the programs we are using but I can't seem to get it all done. Does anyone use things which are more pluged in for these ages? I know for Art I could get dvds. But maybe I could switch other things to audio or dvds too. Anyone have any experience with more independent programs? Thanks Jenny
  20. This is where I get confused. How much difference is there between mp3 and ipod? Is one easier to use than the other? Do they both have the same capabilities? TIA Jenny
