  1. Seconding Wordpress. I run my blog on it and my husband's business site. It depends on what you need to. Is this a simple site or will you be selling, etc? I found that it's the easiest platform for beginners but maybe you just want to hire someone.
  2. Did it work out for you? My 8 year old is a sweetheart at times, but a bit mouthy. That's the brief background. I don't want to get into it too much because I want to hear how the option of PS may or may not have worked out for you. Thanks.
  3. 8 year old, very active and super disruptive because he refuses to be alone, insists on being in the room if I'm working with his brother and even him being quiet is so noisy. Audiobooks are saved for another time. There is a lot of groaning if he is bored. I guess I am looking for an app or educational program. Anything like Time4Learning, he will just learn to get the coins or rewards and not really be learning. Really I think he needs something more active than that, but I don't know what. The plan is for him to get his work done first so I can focus with his brother.
  4. Ok, so giving a check for the line is really for him reading the phonograms or affixes quickly, not necessarily the whole word? Do you use other readers for additional practice?
  5. Do I use the cursor for every word on the decoding power pages or let ds try to read the whole word first and then back up if he misses? It's weird to use the cursor when I don't see what the word is so I don't know if it's "e" or "ee" or "er". I love Apples and Pears but don't know how I feel about Dancing Bears. It just feels like drilling.
  6. I like VideoText also. I tried Derek Owens for pre-algebra and since my son is a slow processor, had to think things over a lot, DO was stressful for me with the monthly payment. I might revisit it in geometry. VideoText is easy to get used on ebay.
  7. Yeah, I think this is it. I wish it would turn off at least for the fun stuff. Do I need to stress while knitting? nope Yes, this too. But everything overstimulates me. Thanks for the replies
  8. You have to set boundaries like "Since you are not supportive of me or even refuse to acknowledge what DD is dealing with, this topic is now off limits." Your sister sounds toxic. She knows your child is struggling but brags, undermines you and triangulates. I would give her very limited info or none at all.
  9. I experience anxiety after focusing on something for a long time. It doesn't matter if what I'm doing is boring or fun, sitting or moving, if I'm intently focusing on it for more than 40 minutes, I'm jittery and nasueous. Does anyone else get this and have it figured out? Am I just allergic to getting things done? Edited for typos.
  10. Thank you, this helps a lot. I think I will keep the one day and do it in a sitting but as handwriting practice only. TC includes labeling the parts of speech and so I think it is like having Fix-It sort of built in. I'll see how it progresses.
  11. If you mean the compass drawing book, no they don't have to be. I guess I should be looking for OT exercises that work on that.
  12. I love TC and my son likes the stories. Moving on to the second week, I see there is a paragraph of copywork a day. If I understand copywork and dyslexia, the only real benefit would be to improve writing stamina, that they won't actually grasp punctuation, grammar and spelling through copywork. Is that right? I was thinking to take the first day's copywork and either do it in one day or have him work on it over the week and not add in the rest. Would that work or would there be a benefit to having him do it all?
  13. Gah! so now I find out they cover the testing codes BUT there are no providers in plan and they don't cover out of network providers. I will have to call and ask again. But it looks like either way I have to find $3k in my sock drawer or something to get this done. He's got other things going on, so I'd want the full eval. In the meantime, I have been looking at our diets more and am banishing all food dye. I thought hey we're pretty good, it's ok for them to have candy once in awhile, but I am seeing that's when meltdowns happen. Also adding in an Omega 3-6-9 supplement. I know it won't correct lack of memory for sounds, but it might help with not being able to focus for longer than 10 minutes. Or is 10 minutes about normal for this age? I should say he's 7y 11months, he turns 8 in a couple of weeks.
  14. You can try muting it and reading the subtitles instead, but that might be a lot of reading.
  15. Thanks. I guess the videos are a good visual for note taking. A Khan Academy style blackboard would work better I think. Ds turns on the subtitles too. He does do the homework along with the videos, uses the book for reference. Well ds say no to switching. He feels committed. I'm grateful for a week off coming up. I'll reevaluate after that.
  16. This is exactly how I feel. Thanks for letting me know you are having the same experience. Maybe this class is best for a more independent learner. Feel free to PM me if you decide on something else.
  17. I don't have to stress about getting them tested anymore, just found out their new insurance covers it! That's such a huge relief! Now to find someone homeschool friendly. :hurray: :hurray: :hurray:
  18. For robotics, see if there are other clubs around. My son is doing Vex this year, it meets for 2.5 hours on a Sunday. I found it through asking on local Facebook homeschooling groups. Idk if this year we could handle all that is involved for FTC, but it would be wonderful if we could.
  19. Ok, this is what I did wrong then. I had the NP fill out the form. So I will just reapply when he goes for his annual. Thanks!
  20. And I'm just going to add, because it just dawned on me, that this child remembers everything he has learned. He remembers things from 3 very clearly. So yeah, a poor memory here would be a red flag. Sigh, so that's all 3 of my kiddos. It's ok, right?? Lol
  21. I'm goint to ask about the discount. I was not able to get my confirmed dyslexic on the NLS b/c the diagnosis needs to be from an MD, as in his pediatrician. This highly confused me and I called them but they said that is the case. His eval was done by the psych.
