  1. Hi, I am currently weaning off zoloft 50 mg. I will be tapering over 6 months and I am 3 months into it. I even wish I had done it more slowly, but it hasn't been too bad. I did enjoy rebound dopamine when first cutting my dose in a quarter, but it was a little too much at times. I think older ADs are SSRIs, newer like Effexor are SNRIs and this might make a difference on how hard they are to come off of. No matter what you choose, go slow getting off and if you don't, start exercising now, even a daily walk. It really makes a huge difference.
  2. I was looking at History Odyssey level 2 and I think this is too much writing for my dyslexic child. We have been informal with history but would like to start with something structured now want to do a world history overview before breaking it down. I'm looking for a spine that is truly secular, but respectful.
  3. Thanks for the suggestions! We just started a GC Plus subscription, so that seems like the best place to start.
  4. K12 says it is a 1-year course. Did you decide how long you wanted to take to do it? There are some suggestions here, but I think you want more of a full syllabus. http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/623583-k12-our-human-story-world-history-text/ What did you purchase from Oak Meadow? I am looking and I'm confused which would be a syllabus.
  5. What could you recommend for a 10 year old very interested in astronomy? Is there even a MOOC or other online option that a child this age could keep up with?
  6. Great thank you! It has been a lifesaver for me as he wants me to have nothing to do with his math instruction!
  7. Would EdX Introduction to Algebra be overkill as a supplement to VideoText? Do you feel VT needs a supplement? If you were to use these 2 together would you do EdX first or mix it in? I was very happy with VT for prealgebra and my son didn't hate math but he's an overthinker and takes forever. I do find mastery works better for this kids, but recall later is an issue. He did well on the Stanford 10 test at the end of this year, but it was stressful because it took him so long. He will not guess *sigh*
  8. DS has writing phobia so this sounds like just want I need to do.
  9. DS is a STEM kid and I'm overthinking history. Would Zinn's Young People's History of the United States plus some Great Courses be enough? How could I test and show progress when he is not doing a formal course?
  10. How old are your kids? I have used a wide range of noise canceling headphones for work. Make sure when you research them that the noise canceling is not coming from a noise that the headphones produce. Some say they are noise canceling but just have a switch for white noise, which I find distracting. I think how old your kids are would be a big factor in the price you want to spend. My kids destroy headphones and I would only consider buying something higher end for a teen.
  11. I have never revisited this story, but we did it as a play in 8th grade. Will have to look up a summary now.
  12. I never read it as a kid, but I just read it for the first time this year. I was like, this is good!...oh wait, this is really kind of weird!
  13. VideoText might help. The lessons are on DVD and short. I got the on eBay used for a good price.
  14. One of my students lost her engineering notebook for First Lego League Jr. Creature Craze I don't see that I can download or order it anywhere. Did I miss something? Or does anyone have a spare I can buy off you? Thanks
  15. I have been trying out the supplements from Native Remedies for me and my oldest and my husband. They both seem to be doing well so far. Downside is their supplements can be pricey, but you can find them on Amazon and ebay for cheaper.
  16. Please tell me your opinion. I am trying to build up the case with dh to have my 7 year old son evaluated. Here's what I am noticing/dealing with on a daily: -Very short temper. He takes even the slightest comment personally and is yelling back right away and tries to stomp off to his room. "Why are you outside right now, you're supposed to be taking a shower?" and his answer is to get offended and scream, "You're always telling me we should play outside more and now I'm doing it!!" -He easily gets in fights with even his good friends. People aren't being fair, no one wants to do what he wants, they are excluding him will say when really he is screaming and they are just trying to move away from him. -Daytime wetting. Not full on accidents, but he just forgets till he can barely get to the bathroom in time. So much laundry! -I cannot teach him past 5 minutes without losing him. Handwriting practice is torture. He is doing good in math but only if we keep it short or he's on Prodigy. -Constantly talks non stop, interrupts conversations all the time b/c he's going to forget what he wants to say. -Huge distraction to other people working. He always needs to be in the room if I am working with my other two I know he is bright, sweet and friendly, but recently all this stuff seems to be ramping up and getting in the way of that. Is 7 too young to tell, is it just a maturity issue? Could he be trying to be more independent from me (formally VERY clingy) and trying to assert himself? Thanks, I needed to vent this out.
  17. If you mean buying the certificate, I never do that. You won't need that. I think the quizzes are graded automatically. I think it is easy enough to do together.
  18. Hi, My DS is learning touch typing, but I'd still like him to practice writing. What is a good pen for dysgraphia? Does your dc have a favorite?
  19. I saw that Thinkwell is on the homeschool buyer's co-op and the group buy ends today (of course). I'm trying to decide if there biology would be good for 9th grade for DS. Is it a regular group buy or will it not be around around for a while?
  20. I have the minimum needed. If interested please use the form linked above by 2/12 (ending 11:59 pm 2/12)
  21. Yes, a fence if you can. It is being aggressive and can't be trusted.
  22. I feel like I can't escape fabric softener, especially Downy which is the vilest smell to me ever. If I get clothes from the thrift store it takes about 6 washes to get the smell out. I feel bombarded by this smell all day, get a package in the mail, a jogger runs by at the park, being anywhere near my in laws, sitting outside and someone runs the dryer. My MIL uses so much and I have talked to her about it already. My lungs get so irritated and I get huge migraines. How do you handle being sensitive to fragrance when other people don't seem to notice?
  23. Thanks. I'm looking at the Trust for Public Land's website right now and it looks wonderful.
  24. Which environmental non profit do you think is the most effective? Which one is worth your support? I can't let 2017 roll on by without doing something so I'd like to at least be a monthly supporter.
