  1. I am also interested in how to find out if my state (GA) offers united Streaming for free. Thanks!
  2. I get all of these from the library. You might want to see if you have them available at yours. In my opinion they are worth the cost.
  3. Here is a link to SCM that lays out a good method for memorizing scripture. http://simplycharlottemason.com/timesavers/memorysys/
  4. I 2nd Story fo the Ancient World by Christin Miller ***Excellent Book***
  5. :thumbup1: AAS (All About Spelling) - This looks so fun and the teachers book is nicely layed out. I can't wait to start spelling! CLE Math 400 - I sat down and gave LU 402 a trial run with my son and the next day he was asking to do math. VP History Cards - They are a wealth of information wonderfully integrating Bible and world history. I was not impressed with Imitation in Writing Aesop's Fables ( So I got WWE and will interchange them. I am hoping my opinion will change as we use it). Classical Conversations Memory work CD - The info is good, but the layout of the ppt presentations is not good. You access by subject and not by weekly memory work. That means I will be clicking all over the place.
  6. I want to hear the answer to your question too. I went to the Homeschool conference 2 weeks ago and wanted to buy it, but couldn't understand what I needed from the exhibitor.
  7. I am a pastors wife and I would love to take these off your hands and use it at church. What would the postage cost? I live in Snellville, GA 30078. Let me know. Thanks, Adrienne
  8. I say go for it and enjoy the best of both worlds. If God has blessed you where you can afford it do what is best for you and your children. I would also love to have someone else teach Math and LA leaving me more bonding time with the subjects I love (Bible, History and Science). I wish BJU let you purchase individual courses in the elementary grades. Just a thought, why not pair up with someone who would like to use BJU Science, Bible and History and split the cost. I know this is easier said than done, but maybe God will put someone in your way if you ask...should you be cutting it close with cost.
  9. It seems like AAS is a good choice. It is just so hard to buy used (probably because everyone is happy with it) and it is very expensive new (DH lost his job in November and it seems no one is hiring). Thank you all once again, Adrienne
  10. It sounds like Heart of Wisdom would be a perfect fit for what you want to do. In her approach the Bible is the center of the school day. The only problem is she doesn't have units for the time period you are looking for, but maybe you could implement her teaching approach. I also want to accomplish this in my homeschooling and can not wait to use her Adam to Messiah Ancients study along with her Science units. I am just waiting for my younger ones to be a little older in order to include them. It is geared for 4th-12th grade. I recommend you visit her website http://www.heartofwisdom.com/overview.html Also read The heart of Wisdom Teaching Approach 70 page excerpt http://heartofwisdom.com/Acrobat/HOWTASamplepages.pdf Even if you don't use her products this is a real eye opener, awesome stuff. HTH, May God bless you on this wonderful journey. He is so Awesome and worthy to be the center of our homeschooling, not just an addition. Adrienne
  11. If you have used both these programs which would you recommend more? What success have you seen with IEW Phonetic Zoo? Is one curriculum more teacher intense than the other? I have not heard much about Phonetic Zoo can you tell me about it? Thanks you very much, Adrienne
  12. Does anyone know if this mean you will be able to take individual courses with BJU or do you still have to do the whole grade level?
  13. Does anyone have negative things to say about GWG or do you completely love the curriculum? My 9yo has been doing Bob Jones English for 2nd and 3rd grade. I was wanting to give him a little break by implement something a little layed back for 4th grade. I am leaning towards GWG mostly, but also considering Daily Grams or FLL4. Any suggestions? Thanks for your input, Adrienne
  14. It looks like the only difference is the maps on vol. 1 and 2. This is on Peace Hill website where they have the books on clearence. For Story of the World vol. 1 and 2 they state Now on sale! This is the ORIGINAL edition of Volume 1 blowout priced at $5.99! The only difference between the original version and the updated version is the updated maps. HTH, Adrienne
  15. But I have to keep everything in balance because sometimes I find myself spending more time planning than teaching. :tongue_smilie: Planning definitely makes your day go by smoother (my kids like knowing what is next) and it allows me to accomplish my goals.
  16. I would omit the lessons that cover object of the subject, object of the predicate and prepositional phrases for the the grammer. For the writing I would never require a 2nd grader to write an expository essay. My boys love writing friendly letters and short stories, if your dc doesn't leave the writing section out and include narration, copywork, dictation.
  17. Do you use this as a supplement to your math or on its own? Also, did you start around 4th grade?
  18. Can someone point out some differences in these two writing programs and let me know if you would recommend one over the other for a 9yo? Or would you start them with WWE? Thanks!
  19. We have so much fun in these subjects and the kids love them so much. Math is good (but I am still in the Arithmetic stage, I think that will change when I get to the higher level math). I wish I could pair up with the mom who loves Grammer, Latin and Writing.
  20. I was just wondering at what level do I start my boys on this program. Should I start them both at level one or should I start the 2nd grader at level 2 and the 4th grader at level 4?????
  21. Hebrews 13:5-6 5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you." 6 So we may boldly say: "The LORD is my helper; I will not fear… As I read this verse in my devotional time this morning I glanced at my Saxon books sitting on the desk. All I could do was laugh. Here is my version of this verse speaking to a home schooling mom… Do not desire everybody else’s curriculum; be content with the curriculum you have. Why should we be content with what we have? Because what will make the difference in our curriculum is not what others have prepared and written; it is that God is with us and His presence is what will make the difference in everything we teach our children whether it be bible, math, grammar, history, science etc…. In the end we will only be able to say…The Lord has helped me with home schooling and give all the glory to Him... Have a good day!
  22. My 8yo son absolutely loves the COFA books. He picks it up and gets so wraped up in it that he can't put it down. In one hour he is done and runs to me telling me all about the book (it does tell more about the childhood but does include his adulthood accomplishments). Once he is hooked on that life I have him read another biography. He is so excited about the life he can't wait. Also, he is all ears and participating in our history class. I think the childhood aspect causes them to make a connection with the person. I don't buy these almost all of them are available at my library so we just check them out. Maybe you could get some from your library and see if they work for you before you make your purchase. We also love the YWAM: Christian heroes then and now series (for missionaries) and Heroes of History. On My Own Biographies ( too easy for 4th grader) Ingri & Edgar D'Aulaire Books (Not many books, but great)
