  1. We pulled our children out of PS when the oldest was to enter 7th grade and we had 8 children at the time. I would go with just the bare basics for the first year; math, english and reading. You can do history and science with library books. As you get into a groove and they feel more confortable you can add stuff in. Have fun!
  2. I had a terrible attack a year ago wich led me to research options other than surgery. I eat a low fat( you do want good fats though; olive oil, avocados, nuts, seeds), high fiber diet and drink plenty of water. I have had 3 minor attacks since then, two after eating cheese, so now I avoid that too and switched to a vegan diet. I don't know if I will be able to avoid surgery forever, but for now, this is wokring for me. As an added bonus I have gone from 267# to 184 and feel great. I did research the flushes and I, personally, don't think they work. I can't imagine consuming a 1/2 cup of olive oil :eek:
  3. Thanks! And thanks everyone, I love all the ideas! We are going to have fun :D
  4. Thank you, everyone else and Pianoplayer. I will start with Music Ace until we can get lessons going. I didn't feel comfortable teachign them myself and am glad I asked here first.
  5. I'd like to make up baskets of activites for my 3 & 5 yo to do while we are doing school. I'd be thrilled if it kept them busy for an hour so we can do one subject without interuption. Plus,w e don't so much artsy stuff so I am thinking it would be good for them anyways. So far I have: glitter glue & paper play doh & cutters magazines, sciccors(?) and gluesticks stampers and ink pads or maybe bingo dobbers paint and sponges or finger paint ( But I'd need to be right there with them lol) Any other ideas?
  6. Thanks and good question OhElizabeth, I have no idea if they all want to LOL. I just want to make sure they all have the same opportunity. What if I don't give the 8 yo a chance and he would have, could have, gone far with music? I did find a teacher today who is willing to barter and I am waiting to hear what she has in mind. I offered house cleaning, but she doesn't need a cleaner right now. Hopefully we can work soemthing out.
  7. When school was done and I cleaned my desk and my filing cabinet, which hasn't been done in ages. It loosk so nice and organized!
  8. I apologize for revisitng this topic :o . I want my kids( 13, 12, 9, 8 and 5) to learn piano, but I have no music experience. I did buy Music Ace and we will be playing with that, but I envision more than this. I can't afford lessons right now though-well I might be able to for 1-2 of them. Do you think a mom with no music expereience can REALLY teach piano sucessfully? Someone showed me some books that look nice, but I am so nervous to take this on. Anyone else teach their kids piano?
  9. We used it one year and the kids liked it and I loved how easy it was, but I don't feel like it "stuck". They forget everything once the lesson was done.
  10. I agree with OhElizabeth. If my oldest was in 4th and especially if I had a lot of younger kids too, I would chose something simpler such as MFW or just SOTW, which is what we did at that age and we LOVED it. TOG is very intense and I would save it for the next go round.
  11. Thank you, Rod and Jackie. It does make sense to do the eval and appointment in two days, I just didn't expect it so was disapointed, but I undrstand. I am glad things worked out like they did and look forward to his eval. I believe we have another VT in my state, but it would be 1-2 hours, I think. Jackie, it IS hard to be patient! :) Thanks for the encouragment everyone.
  12. I believe this is from the old hillbillyhousewife.com Cream-of-Whatever Soup Mix 2 cups powdered nonfat milk 3/4 cup cornstarch 1/4 cup instant chicken bouillon 2 Tbsp. dried onion flakes 1 tsp. basil leaves 1 tsp. thyme leaves 1/2 tsp. pepper (Makes equivalent of 9 cans) To use in place of canned cream soups in casseroles or as a base for your own soups. Much lower in fat and salt than the canned versions. The trick is to have it made up ready to use! Combine all ingredients, mixing well. Store in an airtight container until ready to use. To substitute for one can of condensed soup: Combine 1/3 cup of dry mix with 1 1/4 cups of cold water in a saucepan. Cook and stir until thickened. Add to casseroles as you would the canned product. Makes equivalent of 9 cans of soup.
  13. Jenn, it is not rediculous, I have a fear of anestesia too. I will be praying for you. {{{hugs}}}
  14. I stumbled across this a while back. There was a thread where people showed pics of their food and I was amazed! http://www.rawfoodsupport.com/ Here is the thread with the pictures of raw food: http://www.rawfoodsupport.com/read.php?2,74974 HTH!
  15. I bought 3 modules off Ebay yesterday and they come with the lesson materials, but not the parent manual. Do I need the parent manual?
  16. I tried that one too and was to late. Hoping someone has one.
  17. I had low BP as a teen and I remember blacking out alot , but not the sweaty and pale. I am thinking low blood sugar, which is something I have suffered all along too. I do have an apointment for her this week and in the meantime I am making sure she eats small meals throughout the day.
  18. I didn't know that! While I am glad, I was concerned @ their vocab and figure it can't hurt LOL. Thanks for the info, that is a relief!
